Montreal Hotels
 

I am planning a romantic trip to Montreal. Neither my boyfriend or myself have ever been there. Our hotel choices are Renaissance Montreal Hotel or Delta Centre-Ville. Any recommendations?

I can't speak personally to either of the hotels you mentioned, but my husband and I just returned from Montreal and we noticed this lovely hotel with a great view of all of the goings-on in Old Montreal. It really looked charming. It is very close to restauarants, shopping and a place where you can stroll along the water. It is called "Auberge du viex-port"--it is more like a B&B--no pool or sauna, but looks very romantic to me. We will stay there the next time. I do not reccommend where we stayed--Hotel Intercontinental. Good luck!

I agree...either Hotel Germain or Hotel Vogue.

Hotel Vogue, very nice small hotel. Rooms are nice, huge bathrooms with large tub/jacuzzi type and separate shower. Good location, you can walk to restaurants and shopping.

Of your 2 choices, I suggest The Rennaisance.

Don't stay at the Delta Centre-Ville.<BR><BR>The Auberge Bonaparte is a lovely hotel in Old Montreal.

What's wrong with the Delta Centre-ville? We are planning on staying there in June.

Hvae been to Montreal many times - The Intercontinental is our favorite place. It is close enough to the old town and yet you can get to the shopping areas easily. The concireges are friendly - there is a lovely restaurant for breakfast and good room service. The bathroom are marble with seperate glass walled shower. They have a lot of weekend specials. There is a lovely lounge with snacks and drinks at night. The cielings of the rooms are hig, the furniture Beemer style. The so called "regular rooms" are the same size as the upgraded ones; with the exception of the corner rooms. There is a small health club (no charge) and a lap pool and sun deck on the roof. The hotel was retrofitted into an ould building - it really is nice.The Delta is awful - Avoid the Marriott - and Holiday Inn downtown - they are full of tour groups as well. The Hilton Boniventure is a world apart. It is on top of an office building and has been recently redone.

What about the Omni? Can anyone tell me about this hotel as we are going in June! We had heard it was better than the InterContinental-is this true? We want to be by restaurants and shopping, of course!<BR>Many thanks for your help.

Karol,The Omni is a really fine hotel, that I put on par with the Intercontinental--actually, I've had an unpleasant stay at the Intercontinentral and I now usually stay at the Omni (but couldn't this trip --see my post "yet another Montreal hotel question --sorry!"). To me it is in an ideal location and the rooms at the hotel are spacious and elegant.

The Le Germain is right around the corner from the Omni.Service is 100% better than Omni,due to fact that it is smaller and geared towards service more than the large chain hotels.<BR>

My wife and I are planning a long weekend at the Inter-Continental in July. All the reviews I've read say it's great, but a couple of people have posted some negative comments. What were the problems? How bad were your experiences? Should we stay there or go somewhere else?<BR><BR>Many thanks for your advice.

The boutique hotels others suggested are preferable choices. Another excellent hotel is Le Germain (wonderful linen, beds, breakfast included).

With all due respect to several people who have made suggestions, "boutique hotels" are not for everyone. The 4 and 5 star larger hotels usually mentioned on this site(Intercontinental, Hilton, Omni, Queen Elizabeth, Ritz Carlton, etc) may provide services that the smaller places don't offer, better locations for some people and often offer better promotional rates. The smaller places can be lovely, if that't what you're looking for, and I personally welcome a suggestion to look into what they offer. But, from what I've seen on the Montreal hotel posts lately, people seem to be "pushing" the boutique hotels when posters specifically ask about larger hotels.<BR>Just my opinion.
