Montreal Hotel recommendation for first time visitors????
 

My wife and I are planning to come to Montreal some time this summer.

My question has to do with preferred location/hotel that might be good for access to shopping, tourism, restaurants, etc.?

What area would be the best to consider?

Any specific hotel recommendations?

Any other thoughts/opinions to consider?

p.s. hotel rate is not too much a consideration!

We very much enjoyed the St. Sulpice in Old Montreal. It's a suite hotel with excellent service and in a wonderful location.

We stayed in a B&B in the Plateau area and loved the area and the B&B!

The hotel Dauphin on De Bleury street is a great place.You even have a computer and internet access in the room.Paul

I would stay downtown where there for access to shopping and a large range of restaurants. The Plateau area mentioned in another post is also good but there are not many hotels. Old montreal is charming and touristy.
Really, public transport is so good it is easy to get around no matter where you stay

You can't go wrong with St. Sulpice - and since price isn't a problem, go for one of the top floor suites with larger balcony. Wonderful place to stay, great service and location. Staying there for our third visit next month and REALLY looking forward to it.

My only advice is don't stay downtown. Stay in Old Montreal or in the Plateau. Downtown is fine but just like any other American downtown, to really get the flavor of Montreal you want to stay east of Downtown. Old Montreal has some wonderful boutique hotels and the plateau has some great funky ones.

If you choose to stay downtown, you'll have easy access to everything. As for which Hotel to use, you might want to go through this list of hotels in downtown Montreal:
