Montreal Hotel - Jazz Fest
 

Hi,

I've been reading new and old posts regarding hotels in Montreal, QC. I am headed to the Jazz Fest for a concert on July 4.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel that is safe and in a good location for a solo traveler? Ideally, I would like to spend less than $110 USD (or lower)for a place, but realize that this may be next to impossible. I will be driving so somewhere with parking is a must.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

In the downtown core I wouldn't worry too much about safety, most areas of Montreal are safe and appropriate for a solo traveller. The one thing that you may need to look into is the budget....if you want central, during jazz fest 110$ will not go very far. I know that a friend of a friend stayed at the downtown YMCA for 64.95$/night so maybe you could look into that...supposedly the accomodations were clean and decent.

I'll let you know if I come across anything interesting.

With today's depressed dollar, $110 at any hotel within walking distance would be a stretch. Try the Residence du Voyaguer or Hotel du Paris on Sherbrooke. These are basic 1* hotels in a good neighborhood. There are also a string of inexpensive hotels on St Hubert by the bus station, like the Le Breton. This is an 'ok' but not great neighborhood. You should also look into b&b,s - there are tons of good ones throughout the city. For the money you want to spend, a b&b will be much nicer. Try the bbcanada.com website.

I was able to secure a hotel on the website lastminutetravel.com and got a good rate at a hotel in the downtown area.

Hi Layla,

The hotel is the Holiday Inn Select Montreal Centre Ville. I did a bit of review reading on tripadvisor.com and most were positive, but that there were some quirks? Not sure what that means.

One thing I was surprised about was the price to park my car! 18$ per day. Egads. Would you happen to know of a garage that's perhaps a bit cheaper? I'll need it for 3 nights.

That I believe is the Holiday Inn located directly in China Town right? I don't know of any lots around that area, but parking in Mtl is pretty pricey. The meters charge 3$/hr, but you don't pay after 9pm Mon-Sat or after 6pm on Sunday so maybe you'll get lucky and find a spot on the street at the end of your day??

There's a restaurant on St Laurent near your hotel called Fung Shing, it's a no frills, basic place but I LOVE the food there, especially the general tao chicken, I haven't been in a couple of years but I know it's still there. If you like szechuan you might wanna check it out!

Stayed at Lord Berri last Nov., great location<it's close to the main train station>, seem safe too. I booked a room again for June. The price is reasonable too, it's worth checking.
