My wife and I will be traveling to Montreal in June for our six year wedding anniversary. We have limited our hotel choices to the following:

1. Hotel Le Crystal
2. W Montreal
3. Loews Hotel Vogue
4. Le Petit Hotel
5. LHotel

Any preferences between the five as far as accommodations? We're looking for a hotel that is centrally located to shops & restaurants, is very luxurious but not too-stuffy.

While Monteal's Ste-Catherine Street is a bustling centre for shopping, the rest of the city's tourist attractions are spread into fairly separate neighbourhoods such as the Old Port, the Latin Quarter and the Plateau. All are good for walking but for connections between them the Metro subway is critical. First, did you check that the dates don't correspond with the Formula One car race since that whole period the hotel rates are significantly more expensive.

Second, you should maybe consider the newly renovated Ritz Carlton, or maybe the Sofitel.

Loews doesn't seem to be finished their renovation, and the location isn't fabulous. W Hotel is nice, but also a bit sterile of a location. Hotel Nelligan is also maybe a better choice versus what you mentioned since it's in the heart of Old Montreal - which is romantic especially for walking dates and restaurant trips - plus it's also renovated so nicer than some of the Old Montreal options you mentioned.

We've stayed at the Crystal several times and love it. It's all suites so we find it more convenient that a regular room elsewhere.

It's not on your list but I always recommend the Hotel Saint Sulpice in Old Montreal. It's a suite hotel and just lovely. Some of the suites have a nice balcony overlooking the courtyard.
