Montreal Hotel During Jazz Festival

We are taking our granddaughter for a quick trip up to Montreal. We will be driving from the Boston area so it's not a long drive, hence the choice of Montreal among other reasons. We are limited to when we can go. Our dates will be June 26-28 which just happens to be the start of the jazz festival. While that is not our reason for going there we will definitely try to take advantage of any free outdoor activities going on. My question is what hotel would you recommend that has a pool and is walkable to the festival area but not necessarily right in the heart of it all. My criteria for a hotel would be a pool, view, walkable location preferably near the metro, renovated rooms would be a plus as would free internet. Thanks for any suggestions.

The jazzfest completely closes down the entire Place des Arts area west of St-Laurent, including the main street St-Catherine. There is a Metro stop right in the middle so your strategy could be to find a hotel elsewhere and commute. Plenty of free outdoor music afternoons and evenings. You can check the festival website to see if there are indoor, paid, concerts which might appeal, and buy tickets well in advance. "Jazz"" has a very loose definition at this wonderful event. Sorry, I don't know hotels big enough to have pools. http://www.montrealjazzfest.com/default-en.aspx

Thanks Southam. The pool is a request from our granddaughter, although if the weather is nice and it's outdoors it could be enjoyable.

Lots of hotels meet your requirement. The Rue Sherbrooke West area near Rue St Urbain is a good choice - several large hotels with pools, only a block or two to the festival, but in a quieter area. Look at the Holiday Inn Midtown and the Delta on President Kennedy. There are a few more close by.

Thanks zootsi, the Delta looks good.

I have reserved at Delta Montreal, Hilton Garden Inn, and Marriott Chateau. Of those three if anyone has experience staying at them and has opinions, please let me know. Of course I will be canceling two of the reservations soon, just need to make up my mind. If there is anything just a bit further from the center of the jazz festival action that fits my criteria I'd like to hear about it. Thanks.

We were in Montreal during the Jazz Festival last year and had such a good time! We were driving home from North Hatley and planned to stay in Montreal for a couple of days without realizing it was the week of the festival so it was an excellent surprise. We didn't have tickets for any of the ticketed events but just picked a few free stage events from the schedule and wandered around at will.

We stayed at Le Place d'Armes which was an excellent location with easy walking distance to both the Place des Artes and the centre of Old Montreal. The hotel was very nice. The room wasn't large but it was well-appointed and the service was good.

It's very near my very favourite hotel in Montreal, Le Saint Sulpice, which is a suite hotel. The only reason we didn't stay there is because I wanted to try someplace new.

If you're at Place Jacques-Cartier, stop for lunch or a drink at Jardin Nelson. It's so pretty. There's literally a garden hanging down the wall. It's very casual and inexpensive and had a 'family' menu. We stopped in just to have a drink and there was a great jazz singer singing with a little combo.

We just lucked into all sorts of good things that weekend. Hope you do the same.

Oh, but I don't know if either has a pool. Sorry.

Thanks goddesstogo. I have reserved at the Omni Mont Royal. My 7 year old granddaughter has her heart set on a pool and they have a very nice outdoor pool. We'll definitely try to hear some free music. I have a reservation at two other places, but am planning to cancel them in favor of the Omni. They are Hilton Garden Inn and Delta Montreal. They are all the same about the same price. If it were just my husband and myself we wouldn't place a pool on the top of the list, but we are looking forward to making this a memorable trip for our granddaughter (and us).

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time, opal! We stayed at the Omni Berkshire in NYC last fall and it was lovely.

I'm not sure the Montreal Omni has the same Select Guest program (though it probably does) but when I booked the room I joined the SG program online because it gave us free wi-fi in our room but there were other benefits too. We were upgraded to a larger room (I'm not sure if that was because of the SG status, though) but the best benefit for me was that we got complimentary coffee/tea/juice and other (at a charge) breakfast items delivered to our door at the time we chose.

I hate those in-room coffee makers with the paper cups and powdered whitener and it was a gorgeous treat to get piping hot coffee in carafes with real cups and linen napkins delivered every morning just when I wanted it.

It's worth looking into.

The Hilton at Place Bonaventure has a year-round outdoor pool.

goddesstogo, yes it does have the Select program and I have signed up for it. We're also staying at the Omni Providence in July, again with the granddaughter(s)and signed up when we made that reservation. Looking forward to both.
cdnyul, I actually did book the Hilton, but with the price consideration and some of the reviews about the crowds at the pool, I cancelled; hope I'm not sorry, but I'll never know. Thanks for the post.

that's great, opal -- so you're actually going to be piling up some points too.

Just a follow up; we got home last night and had a great stay at the Omni Mont Royal. It was a good location and pretty much walkable to most everything. We did use the car a few times to go farther afield. The hotel itself was very nice and the service was great. I would definitely recommend the hotel. I upgraded for $15 a night and got a larger room with sitting area on a high floor.
