Montreal hotel choice?

Hello! My husband and I are visiting Montreal for the first time this March (I know, it will be cold.) We seem to be having difficulty deciding where to stay. I was going to book a room at the Vogue or Omni but my husband likes the way the Auberge Bonaparte looks. Any suggestions? Since we've never been to Montreal before it would be nice to stay in a beautiful place with an ideal location.

In my humble opinion, the Vogue is the best hotel in Montreal.
A.M.

Dear Kelly,

My husband and I stayed at the Auberge Bonaparte last September and loved it. It's really more like an inn than a hotel but the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The rooms were also very nicely done and really do look like the pictures on their website--not like other hotels. I loved the exposed brick walls, big windows, and wood floors. We got a standard double which was fine but not large. Next time I would splurge a little and get the superior. Their breakfast is also very good and is included in the nightly rate -- we are hooked on french toast. The location is a bit quiet at night--not at all near the hustle and bustle of Downtown like the Vogues or Omni. But we wanted some R and R and it worked out very well. We'll be going back in July.

In case you decide against the Bonaparte, you should definitely have dinner at the restaurant -- fabulous french cuisine!

Thanks Kathy....Would staying at the Bonaparte still offer easy access to the subway system? We don't want to have to drive our own vehicle too much (we'd get lost, I'm sure)...convience is important too.

Kelly-
The closest metro stop to Auberge Bonaparte is Place D'Arms. It's about a ten minute walk to the hotel from there with a slight incline. We parked our car at a lot not more than 25 yards from the hotel and never used our car except to arrive and leave. That said, it may be colder in March than September, so I don't know how nice of a walk it would be. We did not have any security problems walking to and from the metro stop and we were out quite late some nights. You can always catch a cab if you're really tired -- cabs aren't to pricey and it's really not that far from Vieux Port to downtown.

Hope that helps.

Agree the Vogue is quite nice. I have also used the Novotel many times and have always found it to be quite good and great value for the money. Both are located on Rue de la Montagne and good access to all parts of the city.

Hi there, just to put my 2 cents in~we stayed in Montreal last fall and had dinner at the Bonaparte. It was perfect~the service was great, the food was very good, there was nothing to complain about:) unless I mention the man with the ringing cell phone who had to talk during his dinner-but not even that ruined anything:)

Travelman,

I can't recal the exact cost for parking--I think it was somewhere around USD $15/24 hours with in/out priveleges. I know it was definitely under USD $20. As for walking to downtown, it is possible, but depending on what part of downtown, the walk could be very long. It's about ten minutes to chinatown, 25 minutes to the lower end of St. Catherine, probably about 30 minutes to St. Denis area. I would recommend taking the metro since it's pretty cheap to get a day or week pass. Kathy
