Montreal Hotel

Well, I've narrowed our July 18-23 trip to Montreal to either the Hotel Nelligan or the Place d'Armes. I would appreciate feedback from anyone who knows these hotels. Thanks!

Both are very close to each other, and equally beautiful.

Nelligan is on a smaller street, closer to restaurants, boutiques, etc.

Place D'armes is closer to metro.

But only a couple minutes difference.

Both are a good bets in my opinion.

Hey abbeau,

I haven't stayed at either of the hotels, but they seem to get good reviews.

Their locations are also quite nice so I'm sure you'll enjoy your time!

I would also choose the Nelligan, the location is quainter. They put out cheese and crackers for cocktail hour, the lobby bar with couches and library feel is amazing.

The Nelligan it is - thanks for the input! I have another question. We are arriving Saturday, 7/12, and will stay just that one night in Montreal before heading for a 5-day vist to Sutton, returning to Montreal on the 18th. Is it worth going into the city for one night (we arrive around 4:00 PM) or should we just stay around the airport? And is the airport nearer to Sutton than the city or the opposite direction? Thanks!

I would definitely return to the city at 4 p.m. and enjoy one last evening stroll and dinner, the airport is only 30 minutes max from downtown .

Will you be renting a car at the airport? As you will be returning to Montreal for 5 nights later, why not head straight for Sutton from the airport. It's not much more than an hour's drive.

If you don't have accommodation in Sutton for that night, there are other places along the way which would be pleasant to stop for the night such as Knowlton (Lac Brome or Bromont. I would certainly prefer to do that than either stay at an airport hotel or head downtown (at rush hour) for the night.

Thank you for that! I was wondering about traffic on a Saturday night. That is a terrific idea - staying somewhere along the way to Sutton.

Are you, by chance, familiar with the Lodge at Glen Sutton? We are wondering what that's going to be like. We are going on an Elderhostel trip - golf during the day and ballroom dancing at night.
