Montreal Casino/Restaurants
 

How far as the Casino in Montreal from the Queen Elizabeth and is it best to drive, cab or take subway? Have reservations at the restaurant Nuance at Casino is it as good as I've been hearing and also what about Bonaparte in Old Montreal for dining or some other suggestions in Old Montreal.

A cab to the casino is $14 CAD,If your eating at Nuances you will want to dress nicely,not fuss with walking from the station to the casino etc...,take a cab. <BR>Nuances is a very nice restaurant,worth the trip.One of the finest in Canada. <BR>The Casino on the other hand...while it is a beautiful building,the machines are very tight,save your money or play table games.Enjoy

I, too, am interested in dinner at Bonaparte's. Can anybody recommend it and give approximate prices? Thx

Parking is free at the casino in Montreal, but if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night, you may encounter a lot of traffic on the road (well marked from the downtown areas all the way to the casino) and take some time to park conveniently. It is probably about a 15 minute drive with no traffic could be much longer with traffic

I gather from some of the responses that the casino must be pretty crowded weekends? Back to my first question is it a long walk from train station and is it safe. We will be dressed up but is that unsual in Montreal as far as riding the subway? I am still looking for Old Montreal dining suggestions??

Glad to hear that it is safe. I live in Boston and the MBTA is not the safest at night and Boston is just a too casual city as for dressing up. Any more suggestions on dining in Old Montreal? I will check out the Quebec websit also.

I ate at Bonaparte's awhile back and thought it was terrible if that is any help!

Jean honey, what would help is if you told us WHY you thought Bonaparte was terrible -- after all, that restaurant gets a lot of rave reviews. Details, please?

Just a suggestion - there is a LOT more to Montreal than the Casino and the Old City! Don't be afraid to explore the cafes and shops on St. Denis, St. Laurent, Prince Arthur, Crecent,Duluth etc, etc. You'll be missing the best part of the city if you don't!

When I went to the Casino in '96 there was a bus that ran there from the train station. Anybody know if it's still available?

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I have made dinner reservations for Nuances and Bonaparte. We will be in Montreal for just 2 nights and hope to see things and also shop. One more question does anyone know of bridal shops in the area. My daughter got a Guzzo gown (Canadian made) and now wants some authentic looking period shoes. I know it has nothing to do with travel and a lot to do with shoppers so once again help will be appreciated. We leave Friday morning. <BR>Thanks all.

I used to live in Montreal and when I go back for a short visit I usually eat slightly differently than some of the suggestions here. These are great but... <BR>For Smoked Meat (Viande Fumée - Ha!) try Schwartz on the main, Snowdon Deli or Moe's on the West Island. <BR>For steak try Gibby's in old Montreal (also in Ft Lauderdale), Moishes on the main. <BR>For the absolutely the best long BBQ ribs in the world try the BarB Barn on Guy just south of Ste Catherine (downtown) or on the West Island. <BR>That's what I do when I'm there for a few days. <BR>

MYER, my man, you are BANG on.Your suggestions are correct.GIBBY'S in old Montreal is the best.For you YANKS, take a calleche ride to and from dinner,it will make points with your better half,and yes, it is safe. Remember,this is Canada. <BR> Another great restaurant (dinning)is the BEAVER CLUB at the Queen Elizabeth, very nice atmosphere, very Canadiana,great wine list, very proffessional service. Not a place for kids. Could go on forever, but know I've got Moe's on my brain.Smoked meat !!

I have just returned from Montreal and had to give some feedback to all th people who offered me advice on dining and hotels. The Queen Elizabeth was a very lovely hotel and great location and service was excellent. We arrived to late to keep our reservations at Bonaparte and opted to dine at The Beaver Club which was probably one of the best meals I have ever had (excellent beef)! Service was wonderful and courteous without being stuffy. <BR>As for Nuances which I had heard and read so much about, it was a big disappointment mealwise, service wise and totally overpriced for the quality of the food. I would defintely go back to The Beaver Club again and highly recommend it. Montreal was a great trip!! By the way my daughter got her wedding shoes in the area which was recommended for us to go to, see below. <BR>Thanks to everyone.

Just an update to an earlier post, the bus still runs from the subway stop (free transfer) to the Casino. If you have time, take the Subway, if not take a cab. Definitely don't drive there though.
