Montreal bias on this board? Why all the posts?

Why all the threads regarding Montreal on this board? I am not saying it is a lousy place to go but there are many more desirable places to travel to in Canada. Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary at the time of the Stampede, Windsor, and even Ottawa. If you HAVE to speak French on your vacation then go to Quebec City.

I am wondering if some high school class in Montreal has some sort of project to flood this site with Montreal posts?

If you post about about Montreal at least tell folks about all its warts as well.

Lets have more balance on this board!

Perhaps because Montreal is one of the easy cities (no offense meant for New Yorkers especially New York City dwellers to drive to. Or fly.
Probably because its so popular with people from other countries and is very well known. Regarding your list of other places in Canada dont forget Charlottetown! you cant forget sweet little Charlottetown! ... and Halifax

We usually go to Quebec in the summer, MOntreal in the fall. That is a good trip by car from our apt in Manhattan.
Our son lives in Seattle, he goes to Vancouver, so maybe , it is a matter of convenience.

Dear Henry,

There are many reasons Montreal gets many threads and a lot of American visitors.

It is by far the closest thing to Europe without crossing the Atlantic. No other city in Canada embraces multiculturalism as much as Montreal. On top of that, there is harmony between the french and the English and bilingualism is at an all-time high. You actually do not HAVE to speak French to visit Montreal.

Boutique hotels have sprung all over the city, especially in Old Montreal. These chic and charming hotels are definite crowd pleasers and Montreal prices have yet to reach Toronto levels.

The restaurants in Montreal are numerous and many of them top-notch. A tourist can easily find the type of food he is looking for the price range he is looking for and almost always be pleased.

The events and festivals in Montreal are world class: Formula 1 Grand Prix, Jazz Festival, Comedy Festival, CART series (our 1st year already surpassed both Toronto and Vancouver), Francofollies, Montreal High Lights Festival. Équipe Spectra, the organizer of these evnts does an excellent job of setting them up and marketing them to our neighbours to the South.

Most importantly though, Tourism Montreal has done an excellent job in promoting Montreal to the States, investing millions of dollars on advertising and providing a constant exposure of Montreal to Americans.

What warts does Montreal have and what is the problem with people embracing Montreal as a great vacation destination? IT's great that Americans have finally discovered this treasure and I amc ertain that this influx of tourism to Montreal is only the beginning.

Henry, you must be a Torontonian. Firstly, you don't have to speak French to travel in Montreal. Second, you honestly think that Calgary, Windsor, Ottawa, and even Toronto (the poor immitation large American city) are more desirable than Montreal. Quelle Jouale de Voyageur!

Another practical explanation--Montreal is indeed a popular destination, but also note how many of the posts near the top of the list are actually "old" (anywhere from a day old to several weeks)--when someone is looking for information on a topic, especially ratings/reviews of hotels or restaurants, people will often search for, and pull up to the top, older posts with useful information. In effect, you're seeing several days worth of queries on Montreal, not just today's...
