Big or small?
Downtown or Old Montreal? What's your personality. I've stayed at, orbooked company executives at, the Banaventure many times, and eaten some very good meals there. If I was a movie producer or director, Lowes Vogue. I also like the Intercontinental. The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is a giant hotel that does an excellent job with groups of VIPs, and I've had some wonderful meals there, including a four hour lunch once. BAK |
I stayed at the Queen Elizabeth and really liked it!
("Reine" Elizabeth ??) |
I think as another poster noticed it depends what you are looking for in a hotel. We live about 3 hours from Montreal and have gone there many times over the years, especially during our older son's college years at McGill.
We have stayed at the Bonaventure and the Queen Elizabeth. Both are good options. When our kids were young we usually stayed at bigger hotels with pools. Now when we visit Montreal without them we prefer B &B's. I would opt for one of them or a smaller boutique hotel over the bigger downtown hotels. My personal top ten things to do would include exploring Old Montreal, the archeology and anthropology museum, Mont Royal park, the Plateau neighborhood, the Biosphere (not Biodome) environmental museum, and one or more of the big markets--but there is lots more to do depending on your interests. There are many threads about hotels, tourist attractions and good restaurants. Here is a recent one on restaurants in Montreal and Quebec City http://www.fodors.com/community/cana...d-montreal.cfm |
Hotel: Le St-James.
Restos are tough, being so subjective, but...Europea, Club Chasse et Peche, S (now called something else, I think) or let's say the garden at Le St-Sulpice for lunch. None of these are cheap. JQ |
