Montreal and Quebec City transportation question

I am planning a trip in July to Quebec City (where I will be staying with a friend) and then trip ending with 3 days in Montreal. I am flying out of Atlanta, hoping to fly Delta since I have a credit with them that needs to be used.

It'll be very convenient for me to fly Delta home from Montreal but getting to Quebec City for the start of trip is hard to figure out. With Delta, their only option for connecting flights from Montreal (and possibly from Toronto also) has me arriving in Quebec City at 11:37 p.m. I don't want to do that to myself or especially to my friend who is picking me up.

Friend has suggested the easiest option may be to take the Montreal to QC airport shuttle, the Orleans express. I can get a direct flight from Atlanta to Montreal that will arrive in Montreal at 12:20. I will have to go through customs, I assume. The shuttle leaves at 2:00 and 5:00; I've looked at the Montreal airport map but am still not sure how quickly I could get to the shuttle location. I am hoping that someone with experience at the airport can give me an idea if it is feasible to try for the 2:00 departure.

And I am still exploring options of train/bus or a separate flight on a non-Delta partner airline to get me to Quebec City at an earlier time. Advice or information will be most welcome, thank you!.

Have you thought of the train? I took the train from Toronto to Montreal a few years ago which was very pleasant and i see that there are also fast trains between Montreal and Q Cty as well. Much nicer than having to go out to the airport, battle with all the queues and checks and then the same at the otherend.

You are not going to make the 2:00 PM bus from Montreal to Quebec City.

Search the Orleansexpress site for a connection from Kirkland to Quebec City.
Kirkland is a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport.

Forgot to mention that the Kirkland "bus terminal " is a bench in front of a convenience store in a strip mall.

Thank you for advice -- I was thinking that was too short of a time window. I'll look into the Kirkland connection (and thanks for mentioning it is only a bench!).

I have been checking on train. It looks like there is a free (for train passengers) shuttle to the downtown Montreal train station and a 4:40 train from Montreal to Quebec City. Surely if I am arriving at 12:20, I would have time to get to downtown Montreal from airport in time for it. Train ticket even has senior discount for those over 60. Thank you for advice!

Dorval train station is about half a mile from the airport terminal, not downtown Montreal.
