Montreal and Ottawa
We will be driving across Canada from NY to Michigan and would like to stop for several days in Montreal and Ottawa. Can anyone recommend some inexpensive, centrally located hotels and restaurants. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am calling the Tourism office in both Quebec and Ontario to see if they can mail any information but they will not rate any of the hotels or restaurants. If you have been there, I would appreciate your input. Thank you

Here's one we've used that was reasonably priced and the location is excellent for seeing Ottawa:

Capitol Hill Hotel & Suites
88 Albert Street
Ottawa, Ontario K1P5E9
Canada

Rooms: 150
Price: CAD 69 - 114.

You can price/reserve via:

www.expedia.com

Thanks Jim, I appreciate your suggestion. Ever been to Montreal? Do you have any suggestions for places to stay?

Also, what about restaurants. Did you eat in any good, inexpensive ones in either Ottawa or Montreal?

Sorry, I haven't spend enough time in Montreal to provide any useful advice at all. Here is a link to my Ottawa notes:

http://www.igougo.com/planning/journal.asp?JournalID=1963

I've listed a couple of restaurants; neither would fit the term "cheap", although they were decent values for what they offered. In Ottawa, you will find many reasonable choices in the Byward Market area and also further south, toward the University district. Maybe we can get some help from others here.

Now, can you tell me how your name and e-mail address magically changed into mine in the prior post? It looks like I'm talking to myself here! :o)

I'm sure you'll get the usual trendy restaurants for Montreal, so I'll just give my favorites. I lived there all my life until about 10 years ago.

Steak - Moishe's on the Main and Gibby's in Old Montreal (also in Ft Lauderdale).

Smoked Meat (kind of like Corn Beef) - Schwartz's on the Main or Moe's on the West Island.

BBQ Long Ribs - The best anywhere - Bar B Barn on Guy St downtown.
Thanks Myer - I appreciate your input. I'm really looking forward to my visit to Canada in August. I will be a first for my husband and myself. Can't wait and we will check out your suggestionsed restaurants.
