Montreal & Fireworks

We are thinking about going to Montreal for the fireworks exhibitions. Is it worth it to go to the stadium? I noticed a hotel which advertised that you could see the fireworks from their roof- Auberge de Vieux Porte. Is that worth looking into? Thanks.

The cheapest & best place to see the fireworks is to drive east on the Ville Marie Expressway and exit just after the tunnel. Turn left at the 1st grassy open area facing La Ronde. There should be a parking charge of approx $5.Bring your lawn chair and enjoy.Great view from that location.

Forget cheap! If you are going for fireworks, get as close as possible! Smell the smoke! This means ordering your tickets as soon as possible for La Ronde Park. The Silver section is as good as is gets. We are going there in July for the third year straight. We stay at The Radisson Longueuil - Montreal. I believe you can watch the fireworks from their roof also, but it is to far away for us. It is close to LaRonde and just steps to the Metro and minutes from Downtown.

We will be in Montreal on 6/15 and saw that there are fireworks that night. Does anyone know whether the tickets are likely to sell out or can we buy them that night?

Also is the fireworks area at La Ronde easily accessible by public transportation? Or should we take a taxi? The official website lists a train station and bus line but the metro and bus maps don't have a scale so it's hard to tell whether they drop you 100 feet away or 1 mile away. ;P Thanks!

You can buy tickets on-line at www.admission.com and print your electronic tickets. Click on Festival SAQ.

Metro is Ile Ste-Hélène/Parc Jean-Drapeau. Short bus ride (line 167) from there.

Here's another recommendation for seats at La Ronde for viewing the fireworks. We've seen them from the riverside and rooftops, where, if you have a radio, you can hear the music, but it's a few seconds delayed. At La Ronde, though, the fireworks are RIGHT in front of you, including those at the water level which cannot be seen from the other locations. And, the music, which is synchronize, is spectacular. Your tickets include all day visit (and all the rides!) to La Ronde. There are three price levels. We did the "top" level, which included wine and cheese, but you can see just as well from all price level seats (which, had I known, I'd have passed on the wine and cheese seats). You can get to La Ronde via metro to the island, then a bus that drops you right across from the ticket booth. We were amazed at how quickly we got back to our hotel, given the number of people at La Ronde. Very organized and orderly! You can also see the fireworks from the sidewalks at La Ronde, but they are quite crowded, when the show starts and many views are blocked by structures and trees. As for the roof of Auberge de Vieux Porte, this is restricted to overnight guests and dinner guests. Last I checked, the prix fixe dinner was quite pricey. And, I would imagine you must book way ahead.

I aagree with the suggestion about paying for a seat at La Ronde. We stood on the Cartier Bridge for 5 years and missed out on th music and the world class ground displays to save about $35. These fireworks are woth the money. Silver section is great. Once you see these Fire Works you will want to come back for more.
