Montreal - Accommodation question

We are 2 couples (possibly 3), with three nights in Montreal in October. If you've been there before....where would you stay?

Our preferred budget is no more than $150/night per couple, but we can push that a bit IF necessary. A b&b in the Plateau area sounds wonderful, but we'd need 2-3 rooms with private bathrooms, not sure how easy that will be to find. An apartment rental would work, as we'd like all being in the same house. But not knowing the area, it's a little sketchy trying to find one. Old town boutique hotel? Not sure if I'd find myself wising I were in a more charming area like Plateau. Location is usually everything to me when I travel! A downtown basic hotel is our last resort I guess.

Any help and specific recommendations are appreciated.

You can easily find a b&b in the Plateau area in your price range with a private bath. Many of them only have 2-3 bedrooms, so you can basically book the whole place. A b&b in the plateau is always our first choice. The bbcanada website is a good starting point. My preferred area to stay would be the rectangle formed by Rue Sherbrooke, Parc LaFontaine, Rue Mt Royal, and Parc Mt. Royal - very nice area.

I also like that Plateau district, and encourage booking as soon as possible to get that number of rooms in a b'n'b (gite). Some will not have ensuite facilities for every room. The Montreal tourist board has a list and you can Google for other operators.

Well that's sorta my problem...<i>"many of them only have 2-3 bedrooms"</i>. Even if we rent the whole place, I'm not finding any with 3 individual bathrooms. I suppose we could get by with 2, or even 1 IF we have the whole place to ourselves. But with 6 of us showering, it can eat up the mornings with everyone waiting on the shower.

Zootsi, thanks for the street names, I will start looking for what's available in that area that might work for us.

Tovarich, I'll check out your hotel recommendation as well. Thanks!

auberge de la Fontaine in the Plateau

Meant to say Auberge de la Fontaine has 21 bedrooms so should work for a group. Good location right opposite the park and near many good restaurants. They have a kitchen where you can fix snacks during the day/evening and a good breakfast.
