Montreal

We will be visiting Montreal in August. After browsing thru the internet and all the info we received from Quebec tourist bureau, the Hotel Argoat appeals to us. Does any one have any info on this hotel and is it in a safe neighborhood? Or would we be better off staying in a morecentrally located hotel?

I've never stayed here but I looked it up and Hotel Argoat is in the 500s block of Sherbrooke St. E.; a fine location. You're should be right near Saint Denis St. and the Plateau Mont Royal district, one of my favorite areas in Montreal. You'll also be quite close to Sherbrooke Metro, with easy access to downtown, Old Montreal and frankly just about everything you'd want to see on your visit to Montreal. In my opinion, great choice; that's geographically about where I'd like to stay in the city if I were to pick. Have fun in my favorite North American city! DAN

I've never stayed there, but I've past by it many times. It's a charming building in a desirable neighborhood. As the previous poster mentioned, this is actually a very central location ( but upscale and quiet). Seems like a great choice.
Don't miss walking up to Duluth St. for dinner one evening!

I'm also planning a trip to Montreal. Probably the end of June. Was thinking of the Marriot SpringHill Suites on St-John-Baptiste in Old Montreal. Is that a decent area for small children?

Lorry

I stayed with my family at the Chateau de L'Argoat Hotel 524 Sherbrooke Street for 6days in July 2001. It is a great little hotel. It is small and friendly. The staff made a big fuss of my two children (aged 4 and 6)and were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a very arty feel. Rooms are individually decorated. Hotel is clean. We met several people who had come back to stay again in the hotel. It is very close to a metro station. It had a very safe feel to the area. We walked around in the evenings with our children. There is a very pleasant park close by for boating and rollerblading. You can park at the rear of the hotel free of charge(it hasn't got a pleasant aspect). Parking is about 3 deep and requires a bit of cooperation to move things around. The benefit of this, was as we never had a need to use our car it was safely wedged in the whole time.
The continental breakfasts, inclusive in the room rate, were good and really set you up for the day.
In summary it was excellent value and a very pleasant experience.
