Montmorency Falls
 

We are driving to Montreal from the NYC area in mid-August for a 5-day stay with 2 teenagers (fist time in Canada). We will spend one night in Quebec City. We are debating driving to Quebec City from Montreal or taking VIA. The choice is between the tedium of 6 more hours in the car versus the ability to see Montmorency Falls. Is there any way to get to the Falls from QC without a car? I read a post that it was 6 miles by bike, but that is too much for me to bike. Is there public transportation of any sort? Would a cab be very expensive? Also does anyone have an opinion on the Radisson or the Hotel Manoire Victoria? Thanks for your insight

I'll bet there are tours operating out of Quebec that will take you there in a motorcoach. Have you checked? The Toursime Quebec website http://www.tourisme.gouv.qc.ca/<BR>can probably give you info about taxis as well.

Try oldquebectours.com. They have a countryside tour that goes to the falls. They have a small bus that only holds maybe 20 people, and they will pick you up at your hotel. The have a website.

Are you talking about Radisson in Quebec or Montreal?

You could always rent a car at the Train Station in Quebec City. It shouldn't cost you more than $US 40 for the day. Plus, once you are at the falls, you could go for drive around Ile d'Orl&eacute;ans or go to Mont Sainte-Anne for a gondola ride to the top, where the view is very spectacular.

Radisson is nice - 5 minutes walk to the center of the old city. Nice rooms and beautiful lobby. We stayed there last summer for July 4 weekend and liked it a lot. I would stay there again. Not sure about Hotel Manoire Victoria.

Bored with a car drive of 6 hours and not bored with a train ride? Huhh??<BR>It does not take 6 hours to drive from Montreal to Quebec!! How is a train ride not boring while a car ride is??<BR>Explain.<BR>

Montmorency falls is horribly commercialized and "touristy". Don't go unless you have a contrasting opinion from someone whose judgment you trust. It's a haven for rip-off artists, and a completely sleazy operation. I invite corroboration or a contrary view.

Gee, David, New York City is touristy; Niagara Falls is touristy; the Grand Canyon and other national parks (both American as well as Canadian) are touristy; Quebec City is touristy; etc., etc., etc. Shall we all stay home and never see the fantastic sights and hear the wonderful sounds of these places??????? Stop being so snobbish. If TOURISTS want to see the beautiful Montmorency Falls, then, so beit!

I think a trip to Montmorency Falls is definitely worth it, especially since you can easily combine it with a trip to the cathedral at Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Those two together make a nice half-day excursion from Quebec City.
