moderate hotel near ferry line in Vancouver

Where is the ferry line that goes from Tsawwassen to Swartz located. I can't find it on any maps I have. Is there a motel, hotel near the ferry line so that we can catch an early ferry in the morning in mid June. If we make reservations for a certain time do we have to sit in the car for hours to be sure that we can get on? We will be travelling two couples, one of the persons is in a wheelchair most of the time.

Hi Barbara, the ferry terminal in Tsawwassen is kind of out in the middle of nowhere. I know there must be motels in Tsawwassen itself but I don't think any are within walking distance of the ferry terminal (you drive out this long causeway to get there--it's the end of Rt. 17); however, they would only be a short drive. I know in past years you've only had to get to the ferry terminal 30 minutes in advance in order to hold your reservation. You should check the BC ferries website for current details.

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you're trying to find the area on a map, go to:
http://www.concierge.com/cgi-bin/maps.cgi?link=intro
and type in Tsawwassen and Canada in the "Find any place on earth" boxes. There you can zoom in an out.

Are there reservations on this route, Sheri? I've always just "winged it", even in July and August.

Hi April, yes, you can make reservations on this route (and also Horseshoe Bay/Nanaimo), but unless you're traveling on a Friday or Sunday, I agree that it's not really necessary, since they go hourly in the high season anyway. The BC Ferries website has information under "Planning Your Trip", then "Optional Reservation". There's a number to call, and a $15 surcharge.

I would not waste money on reservations in mid june. If I had to make it to a wedding on a Saturday in August, then yes. As to hotel by the ferry, I have to ask is there a specific reason you want to stay there? If you want a hotel that is traffic hassle free for the trip over, I would suggest heading toward the ferry and stopping at one of the many hotels or motels as you pass the airport. There is a Stay and Save and a Delta that I can remember a stones through from the road. Both are chain hotels and must have web sites by now.
