Metropolitan v. Sheraton Wall Centre
 

Which of these two Vancouver hotels do you recommend? We found good rates for both of these hotels in August (and have some Starwood points for the Sheraton). We're interested in a location that's convenient to good restaurants, Stanley Park, Robson Street and other shopping, and has comfortable spacious rooms with nice bathrooms. We will not have a car in Vancouver.Thanks for any help.

The only one I have stayed at is the Wall Centre. It certainly meets the criteria of comfortable spacious rooms and nice bathrooms. They are about equidustant from Stanley Park; I would find the walk from the Wall Centre along the English Bay shoreline preferable to the walk from the Metropolitan. The Metropolitan would be perhaps a 5 minute shorter walk to the shopping part of Robson Street. Good restaurants are everywhere.

The Metropolitan is a former Mandarin Oriental Hotel so may be a bit nicer than the Sheraton. It is also just across the street from the Pacific Center, which is a covered shopping mall. As ron has pointed out both hotels are conveniently located for shopping and restaurants in the downtown Vancouver area.

Anyone else have advice?

My husband and I are also planning a trip to Vancouver at the end of July and have considered both hotels. We WILL have a car so my questiion would be how convenient and expensive is parking at both hotels? Would find any input on parking downtown and at these hotels helpful in making a decision.

We live in the lower mainland suburbs and quite often spend the night in downtown if we are attending a special event or whatever. We ALWAYS bid on Priceline and have ended up at the Marriott, Westin Bayshore or Hyatt. All of these hotels are within walking distance of shopping and good restaurants although the Hyatt has the best location. Last time we got the Hyatt at $49 US but that was in late April and may be somewhat higher now.
Parking in large cities has become very expensive particularly at hotels but what options are there if you want to be where the action is? I suggest you call the hotels on their 800 number and ask for the rates to avoid any surprises as hotels seldom show the rate on their web sites.

That is good advice re Priceline. I find it is a good idea to go into the Priceline section where they actually quote prices.(a fairly new feature) Although you can do better price wise by bidding you can get to see the hotels themselves pictures ammenities etc etc. If you don't want to bid and take your chance on the hotel you get the Priceline prices are better than the price quoted by the hotel themselves.
