Metropolitan or Sutton Place?

Hi Guys,

Popping into town for a few days and want to stay in The Metropolitan or The Sutton Place. Which would you opt for?

Thanx

Tony M

Hi Tony,
You can get some good info on the rants and raves under hotels in toronto but I can say that the Metropolitan is a bad choice. It's overpriced and the rooms and service are sub-par. Sorry I can't comment on the Sutton as I haven't stayed there.

We were upgraded to a junior suite with 2 bathrooms, living room and bedroom the only time we stayed at the Metropolitan over 1 year ago. We have no complaints. However, after reading the rants and raves on this forum and reviews on other forums, since we can't be assured of a suite, we have choosen other hotels this past year. We will be staying at Sutton Place for the first time this May. If you make your reservations through Toronto Tourism, the Metropolitan has some specials. Also, rates on many hotels are cheaper than what you can book directly with the hotel. We go to Toronto about 15 times a year and always book through Toronto Tourism. The number is 1-800-499-2554.

Other than the fact that the Metropolitan was originally built as a five star Mandarin and a state of the art fitness centre it is definately four stars as compared to the Sutton's five.

All other things being equal, (e.g. price and room view), there's no contest between the two. go with the Sutton Place.

Tony, all the posters here seem to immediately assume you are heading to Toronto but Vancouver ALSO has both a Metropolitan and a Sutton (both of which I have stayed at). So before I comment I need to know . . . Vancouver or Toronto?

As for John, Dee and Gary . . . what made you automatically assume Tony was asking about Toronto? Did I miss something?

John K Mar 25th, 2002 04:40 PM

Hi Rita,
I assumed Toronto because I guess I'm not as well traveled as you are and had no idea that Vancouver also had a Sutton and a Metropolitan! You're right, Tony should clarify just in case we've given him Toronto info for a trip to Vancouver.

We know its Toronto because, if we do a subject search on Ontario, the subject shows up. And I support the Sutton Place as well.

I never for a moment thought Tony was talking about TO. Note that I said the Metropolitan started life as the Mandarin. I'm sure that'sa not true of the one in Toronto.

But now that you mention it - are we talking Vancouver or Toronto???

Tony Mar 25th, 2002 11:40 PM

Sorry Guys!!

I should have been clearer and stated my destination.... Toronto!

Ron had the right idea though - my query was posted on the Ontario board.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

PS... Does anybody have any info on the Sutton Place as the comments on Rants and Raves seem dated.

Thanks again.

Tony

We stayed at Sutton Place last summer and liked it fine. We got an excellent rate by booking directly on their web site. I can't remember now what it was, but they honored it. I do remember that it was so low that the desk clerk did a bit of double take when she saw it, and was careful to not say it out loud, lest the other people checking in (there was a crowd) overhear.
