I haven't been there personally, but there is a very glowing review of the hotel on www.tripadvisor.com. It sounds very nice.

i haven't stayed there but did do a tour of it. if you are not a heavy sleeper, i would ask for a room on the north side so that you are away from whyte avenue. however, if you enjoy people watching, some of the rooms facing whyte ave have patios. the rooms are a decent size and of course with it being new, everything looks great. the only negative if you are driving is that they don't have a parking lot there. they do valet parking and park your car at their "sister" hotel which is a few blocks away. so, you may have to wait 5-10 minutes for pickup once you drop your car or if you want your car brought around.
the restaurant below the hotel is quite good. i've been there twice and enjoyed both meals.

Thanks for the info. They finally have a website and th ehoel does look pretty nice.

We wanted to stay in the Strathcona area because of the International Street Performer's Festival.

made a mistake in my earlier response...the restaurant below the varscona was really good not below the met.

Spent 2 nights there.

It's a great little boutique hotel. Very friendly staff. Tastfully decorated rooms with contemporary artwork. Our room even had a Bose radio/cd.

Complimentary Continental breakfast and afternoon wine & cheese.

I live just a few blocks away, so haven't stayed there, but the location can't be beat. Stay at either the Varscona or the Met, whichever is cheaper.

Dick...just wondered if you look at this post again...where was your room located. have wondered if it would be very noisy facing whyte ave or, if facing north, can you actually get a nice view of the rivervalley/downtown? thanks.

Noise was not a problem at all.

Our studio room looked out on Whyte Ave heading west..I think.

The hotel is octagonal so more of the rooms that face Whyte ave, do so at an angle.
