Memorial Day/Canada Day in St. John's

We'll be spending 3 days In St.John's including July 1 at the start of our two week visit to Newfoundland, and I have a few questions about the commemorations and celebrations that day.

We'd like to attend the Sunrise ceremony on Signal Hill at 6am. How does one get there? I can't imagine that cars would be allowed, and it's really at bit far to climb. Are there shuttle buses to take people there and if so where do they leave from and when?

I assume that the Memorial Day commemoration ceremonies take place at the National War Memorial. What time do they normally take place and should one be there well beforehand (as is certainly the case on Remembrance Day in Ottawa)?

I gather that the party on George Street is bigger and rowdier than ever and officially starts the night before. Any suggestions on how to survive it?

What other events might be worth taking in on July 1?

We're very much looking forward to our return to "the Rock" this summer.

Is there no one here who has spent July 1 in St. John's??

Well, I haven't been there --usually chillin' at home, which is 3 hrs. from St. John's (& much less foggy!). However, the city of St. John's website yielded this from last year:

You don't really need to be at the War Memorial on Duckworth terribly early, I suspect--seriously, how big a crowd could there be here! You will need to figure out where to park, since a lot of roads will be blocked, unless you're staying DT, & can walk.
I'm definitely too old for George St. advice! The Signal Hill Tattoo is more my speed. Here's a calendar:

There are fireworks July 1 when it gets dark--that's more of a family picnic event, from what I've heard.
Have a great holiday.

Just keep driven straight from any direction ya can't friggen miss it,yes you can take your car , you won't catch any one from nl foolish enough to be up there at 6am trying to find their way around in the fog. All I really care about is getting my piece of the action on that 200 ft. Sub sandwich. iT'S GONNA BE SOME GOOOOD BYE.

George St. is a 5s5h5i5t show stay away from there after 11pm. Qudi vidi lake some good events i think that is where the Sub is shooo, usually some good fire works at 10pm.

Usually it's just half an hour later in Newfoundland. For Joe_Goe a bit more.
