MedCan Clinic (Toronto)?
Hello,
I know this is not travel related but because it is a Canadian topic, I do not think that The Lounge is the proper place to post. If it is, then please advise & I will post there.
I am wondering if anybody here knows anything about the MedCan Clinic in downtown Toronto. I have done some preliminary research but it would be helpful to hear first hand accounts (or even second hand accounts if you happen to know somebody who is a patient or has been a patient at this clinic.)
Thanks,
OB1

I cannot comment directly on this clinic, but if you are from outside Ontario, you should keep in mind that universal health insurance and care for provincial residents reduces the functions that take place in private clinics. Aesthetic procedures, physical therapy including chiropractic, and some other specialized treatments that do not require hospital facilities are the type of thing clinics are allowed to do. It's wise to investigate the context of any clinic's advertised services.

Thank you, Southam
I am a resident of Ontario.
I did wonder if a private medical clinic such as MedCan would have "hospital priviledges". If MedCan were to determine that a surgical procedure is required, where is the surgery performed? Do they have some type of agreement with hospitals in the Toronto area, Mt Sinai, St Mike's, etc.?

What I mean is: If, as a result of a consultation w/ a private medical clinic such as MedCan for which the patient(not OHIP) pays, it is determined that the patient requires surgery, radiation, chemo, CT Scans, MRI, etc then would these procedures be performed in a Toronto area hospital & covered by OHIP? Or, would they be performed by a private MedCan doctor in a Toronto hospital & the patient would have to pay MedCan.

its a preventative health clinic aimed at preventing disease through screening and early diagnosis; in addition to enhancing overall health (or at least thats the idea)... if you have any required treatment / surgery etc, you'd go to the hospital and it would be on OHIP like everyone else.
cleveland clinic (also downtown TO) is run less like a business and more like a medical center vs. Medcan. its a bit more expensive, but likely worth it...
