Luxury Hotel - Calgary?
 

Looking for advice for the best hotel in Calgary. Relaxing and great room and bed. Debating between Sheraton Suites Eau Claire and Kensington Riverside Inn. Wasn't impressed with the Hyatt and not sure about the Palliser.

Sheraton Suites, hands down.

The Fairmont Palliser is older, the grand old lady of Calgary, so to speak. I have a soft spot for the place myself. But the rooms that face the back do get some noise from the Canadian Pacific Railway line (the reason that the hotel was sited where it was in the first place).

The Sheraton is close to the river, with its pleasantly shaded shoreline walking path. The hotel has won numerous international awards. Brad Pitt stayed there, if that counts for anything with you.

Kensington Riverside Inn is a pleasant boutique hotel, but I don't think even the KRI people themselves would pretend that they are up to the standard of the Sheraton. KRI is in the district of Kensington, just across the Bow River from downtown. There are some funky shops and restaurants just round the corner from the hotel. It's also close to the river and the other pleasantly shaded shoreline path (this time on the north side, rather than on the south side like the Sheraton). However, Memorial Drive, which has quite a high volume of traffic, is between the Kensington Riverside Inn and the river. (The Sheraton does not suffer from that flaw.)

Not to add to the confusion but I would vote for the Kensington River Inn. I've stayed at the Sheraton Eau Claire and white it's nice . . . "it's a Sheraton" not a luxury brand (in my opinion). I've recommended the Kensington River Inn to visiting clients who've travelled the world and stayed at many fine hotels and they commented that it was one of the best hotels they've ever stayed at.

I haven't stayed at the Kensington but I have stayed at the Sheraton Eau Claire and the Palliser recently. The Palliser has been allowed to "run down", I wouldn't recommend it. Still a gracious old lady as Judy says but OLD.

The Sheraton is lovely but I would recommend staying on the gold floor, it is great and worth every penny. I didn't find it terribly expensive for what we got. Along with a 2 room suite, a free cocktail hour with the manager at the gold floor cocktail room and the "continental" breakfast that was included was scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants and other pastries, cereals, coffee, juice.

I was also recently at the Hyatt, in a ordinary room, I found the service to be exceptional, the bed luxurious and comfortable but the room quite small for the price. But the gym, fitness facility is great.

There are all good but I would say different in their own right.
You might also consider the Weston in that group.
I recently and for the 1st time stayed at the Hotel Art in Calgary. Renovated Holiday Inn, that is in a boutique style. I was impressed and found for the $ was a great deal $155 I believe.
Also walking distance to downtown and a fantastic resturant I believe on 17th? called the The Living Room.
