Looking for Montreals best!
 

My boyfriend and I have 2 days in montreal, and plan on taking the metro everywhere. We want to see the Metropolitan museum of art, archaeology museum, biodome and botanical gardens, as well as the casino after dinner saturday night. What else should we hit for shopping that would allow us Canadian souvineers, as well as eclectic/ interesting stores and interesting cafes for the daytime, as well as we need a great restaurant for a great dinner saturday night (near the casino would be a plus so we can hit the casino right after dinner). All suggestions are appreciated, or go ahead and email me if you want to.
P.S. Main Madness is also the same weekend... should we just focus on that for shopping or avoid it?

My understanding is that the main restaurant at the casino is excellent, so that could save you some travel time and make the logistics easier.

Here are a couple of ideas:

1) Brunch: Do not miss La Maison Kam Fung, which has (IMO) the best dim sum in the western hemisphere.

2) Lunch: Smoked meat at Schwartz's is a treat and it is in a funky shopping district (St. Laurent / St. Denis area) that is fun to walk around.

3) Dinner: We enjoyed Toque! but it is not something you want to rush through.

If you want interesting and eclectic stores, lots of outdoor cafes, and lively street life,visiting the plateau area is a must. This neighborhood encompasses St. Laurent, St. Denis, Mt. Royal, Prince Arthur and Duluth streets - all lined with interesting cafes and shops - some funky, some upscale.

I had a wonderful meal with my customers at Gibby's on the waterfront last year. They are in Old Montreal, which is a lovely section of town.

Can anyone tell me if the Biodome is open in the winter and what other good family attractions there are?

I know it will be cold, but I love Montreal and I'm thinking of bringing the kids along this time.

Biodome will be open, as will be the Insectarium, which you can visit on a multi-loction ticket along with Biodome.

Kids love insectarium. Bring a magnifying glass, too, and get really close to the bugs.
