Lodging in Whistler

Where's a good place to stay in Whistler? We want to be close to the lifts, restaurants and shops.
We need a condo. Thanks!

Many of the hotel rooms at Whistler are equipped with kitchenettes. I stayed at the Westin, which is literally maybe one hundred steps from the main gondola and my room had a stove top, oven, microwave, fridge and dishes/pots/pans. So don't limit your search just to condos.

Hi my favorite is the Horstman house. It is in the upper village but has the free bus stop right out front which drops you right in the center of town or at the base of the lifts. They have full kitchens washer and dryers. It is great for families Look at premiere properties or the whistler/blackcomb web site

Sounds like you want to be in the Village, you may have to trade off the close part if you want a condo.
Although most all the hotels are condo like in that they have the kitchens in them.
There are so real good deals in Whistler right now but come Jan and Feb the rates go from $200-$600 a night. I hope your timing is right !

My favorite is the Pan Pacific--very close to the lifts.

With the American Dollar gaining strength in Canada, Whistler is once again a hot destination for US citizens that want to capitalize on great values in North America’s number one ski destination.
And to ignite those that want to take advantage of the stronger dollar, Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts’ two award-winning Whistler properties are offering a “pre-paid internet special” with a “Lock in Your Exchange Rate” offer so that travelers can be assured of securing the great value of the current exchange rate benefits.

There are definitely some great hotels in Whistler Village that are close to the lifts/restaurants/shops, but I find them to be too expensive, lacking in condo amenities (kitchen), and too noisy at night (roaming revelers!).

I much prefer to stay in the "Upper Village", at a slope-side condo at Blackcomb. You can get a nice large condo with a well-appointed kitchen, hot tub, pool, etc. for less than in Whistler Village. You can literally step out your door, step into your skis and slide down to the Blackcomb lifts. If you want to ski at Whistler, there is a little chairlift that will take you to a slope that runs down to the Whistler base. It is nice and quiet at night too. Restaurants and shops are much more limited at the Blackcomb base, but it is less than a half-mile walk to the center of Whistler Village.

Check out (in my order of preference) The Aspens, The Woodrun, Greystone Lodge, Cedar Creek,Painted Cliff, Stoneridge.

The biggest bang for the buck in the Delta's Tantilus Lodge. Its an older condo converted to hotel. Large 2 bedroom units

I second staying in the Upper Village. Hubby and I always stay at THE ASPENS.
Great complex overlooking Blackcomb Mountain, great amenities. You have to remember that many condos at Whistler, even the hotels, are personally owned, so the quality of the suites can vary. We have learned to ask for Suite 209 at the Aspens. It is a 1 bedroom at the end of the building directly over the slope. It will sleep 4 with the pull out queen sofa in the living room, which is good for our two kids but not in my opinion for a second adult couple. The suite has fantastic views and is very clean and comfortable. You can sit on the balcony and watch skiers swoosh by you! We rent through www.blackcombpeaks.com

Just got back from The Aspens yesterday and I think it's a great location! Close to the village, Chateau Fairmont and a lot of great places to eat.

comtngirl, you don't give any particulars (price range, how many bedrooms, amenities like a pool, etc.) but our family of four has stayed at the Tantalus as well, and enjoyed it. Had a 2 bdrm, 2 bath condo, outdoor pool and hot tub, next to the Westin. We've also stayed a number of times at the Mountainside Lodge in their loft condos: right in the Village, steps to lifts, etc, a bit squishy for 4 but I've never been able to get anything bigger, more noise at time ('cause you're right in the Village). Have fun.
