Lodging in Victoria
We are traveling with another couple and need 2 rooms for 2 nights in July. We're taking the ferry into Swartz Bay and out of James Bay. We'll have a car so we can drive. We'd like to keep the price under $150USD/night. Since we'll arrive in the early evening, we'll basically have one full day to enjoy there before heading out. I made a cancellable reservation at the Holiday Inn on Blanshard, but I can't find any reviews for it. Does anyone here have feedback about it? Is it in a good area? If not, can someone recommend a better place in that price range?

I recommended the Shamrock Inn to Sludick if you look back in the posts it has the heading checking out James Bay Inn. Here is the website for Shamrock http://www.shamrocksuites.com/
I highyly recommend them and if you go back in the posts you will see more about it. Excellent location - clean, comfortable. The price is good and you get great accommodation for the money. |
The Holiday Inn on Blanshard wouldn't be my choice. Especially with your limited time, I think your stay would be much more pleasant if you were within walking distance of the harbour and downtown. The Holiday Inn is on the main thoroughfare into town, near a shopping mall.
You could also check out the Days Inn on the Harbour, which is across the street from the harbour where the Coho ferry docks. According to their website, a harbour view room would cost about $145 US. http://www.daysinnvictoria.com/ |
Just thinking that many hotels may be booked up for July. You could also try the Quality Inn Downtown. Although the location is more in town and not as nice as others like the Shamrock or Days Inn, it is not a bad looking place and is still within walking distance of the harbour.

Thank you for the replies. I reserved two rooms at the Shamrock Suites instead. It looks great and the rates are really good, as well.

There are some very good B and Bs in Victoria. I stayed at two of them last year: Wintercott B and B which is not far from Butchart Gardens and Ryan's B and B in the downtown area fairly near the Provincial Museum.
Ryan's is operated by Sheila Ryan who is also a recording artist. Her Samrad Linn album is full of haunting Irish songs. Sheila is Irish to the core. |
holly, am looking forward to hearing how your trip goes. As traveller69 mentioned, we'll be staying at the Shamrock Suites as well, in September. Have a great time!
