Lodging in Nova Scotia
 

Tanya, Which would you recommend, Dundee or Keltic Lodge? I prefer newer accomodations unless they have updated the rooms. Is one more centrally located for driving around Cape Breton than the other?<BR>I have done a search for the Keltic Lodge, The Pines and just lodging. I have seen quite a few conflicting opinions on the Keltic Lodge. I realize that we all have different tastes. I think all have agreed on the setting-view is spectacular but some have said the rooms need updating.<BR>Any help you can give me in that direction would be grateful. I rely mostly on the pictures of the rooms that are on the Web sites and the Keltic does not have any pictures of their rooms so a person has no idea of what they are paying for or getting.<BR>Bell Bay must be just a golf course and does not have accomodations?<BR>I am thinking of the Pines resort for the othe part of NS, however Rosewood on the Cove looks interesting. Do you have any suggestions or comments?<BR>Thanks again for your help.<BR>

I haven't been to Dundee but would say it is newer. Keltic is at the top of the trail. Good spot to stop and spend a relaxing evening. I thought the Keltic was very elegant and know many people who return. Guess to each his or her own, can't guarantee what I like is to your preference.<BR><BR>Yes, Bell Bay is just a golf course but has a beautiful view of the Bras' dor Lakes. Keltic is magnificant as well. You are actually playing inside a national park.<BR><BR>The Pines is a beautiful spot. Sure you won't be disappointed. You probably don't need to make an accommodation here so check out the rooms prior to checking in to make sure they are to your liking.<BR><BR>

K, We have stayed @ Keltic Lodge many times over the years. I always call them ahead of time & ask for one of the newly renovated rooms in the Main Lodge. Last time we had a wonderful room: Queen bed,gleamimg hardwood floors, lovely view. I am very biased against The Inn @ Keltic & in my view there is absolutely no comparison b/t the Main Lodge & The Inn @ Keltic. I wld. not stay @ The Inn if someone paid me to stay there! Hey! But that's just me & that's what makes a market!<BR><BR>With respect to Baddeck, The Inverary Inn(sp?)is a good choice. Or, at least it used to be. Have not stayed there recently. <BR>

Thank you Tanya and Susan. I have wondered what the rooms were like and it helps that you told me about the room you had. I appreciate your candid remarks. I have read similar remarks about the Inn. I have also read that some thought it (Keltic Lodge) wasn't worth what they paid, which has made it difficult for me to choose. I did however call today and they do have availability in the lodge for the aprox. time we will be there. I just have to finalize our itinary.

FYI - I just found out Keltic Lodge was named #44/100 hotel in North America by Travel and Leisure Magazine. It was the only hotel in Atlantic Canada and one of the few Canadian hotels that made the list.

I just checked on availability of Keltic and I can get one of the cabins for the time we are there. <BR>At the lodge, I would have stay in a queen bed and change to 2- beds room if I stayed more than one night.<BR>Has anyone stayed in the cabins? In my search under Keltic Lodge no one has ever mentioned the cabins.

Hi, K, it's me again! I wld. not opt for the cabins. Mind you, I have not checked them out for quite some time. When I did they were "stuck in the woods". As I recall, they had some sort of weird "sharing arrangement" ( i.e., separate sleeping areas but "common" living room. Don't remember what the scoop was on the bath. Now perhaps all that has changed so you may want to ask them to describe in detail what the cabins are like. <BR>Take the queen & hope for a cancellation for your other night/nights. Call them everyday until you get the room you want! <BR>When are you planning on visiting Keltic? (Did I miss that?)<BR>Hope this helps!<BR>Susan

Thanks Susan. It does help. Normally I wouldn't be so concerned but I have heard some really mixed reviews on the Keltic. We are going to try it anyway.<BR><BR>It looks as if we will be there around the first week-end of Oct.<BR>How far from a town is the Keltic Lodge?
