lodging in Halifax?
 

We will be in Halifax in late July for just one night. I would like recommendations for a great place to stay...

I don't know about 'great' but we had a very pleasant and convenient stay in the dorms at U. Halifax. It was very inexpensive, included breakfast, and was very convenient to everything.

I'm sorry Pat, but there's no U. Halifax. Do you mean Dalhousie?

Well, you can stay at the Sheraton - it's right on the waterfront downtown Halifax, and it's connected to the casino. There's also the Delta right downtown on Barrington Street (a couple of blocks up the hill from the Sheraton). The Westin is very nice - it's a bit farther from downtown - towards Point Pleasant Park, next to the railway station.Have a good trip! <BR>

I highly recommend the Waverley Inn. We had a wonderful stay there a few summers ago. Excellent location, historic inn filled with antiques, helpful staff, reasonable rates, free parking, walking distance to everything. The website is http://www.waverleyinn.com/

I live in Halifax. The Sheraton, Delta Barrinton and the Lord Nelson are all good choices, right downtown.

If you'd like a GREAT view of Halifax and the harbor, consider the Holiday Inn Harbourview on the Dartmouth side. It's a short walk down to the ferry terminal and you will be dropped right in the middle of the Halifax waterfront area.

All of the above responses are great. I live in Halifax and I would suggest that you stay somewhere right downtown if you're only here for a short time. Why waste precious time commuting? The money you save on your room you will spend on cabs etc. However, if you were here longer I would suggest staying somewhere cheaper. I would suggest the Sheraton (on the waterfront/next to casino with skywalk to Scotia Square shops and Barrington shops), the Prince George (very nice rooms and larger than the Sheraton rooms), the Citadel Inn (at the bottom of Citadel Hill), Lord Nelson (next to the major shopping area and across from the park), the Delta Barrington. The others are great but further away. The Westin is near Pier 21 but a longer walk to shops and the waterfront - your feet may get tired from all the walking (lots of hills downtown!)Even if you stay in Hfx the ferry to Dartmouth is a cheap way to get a water tour and see the Halifax skyline. Hop off in Dartmouth and hop back on again. Have fun!
