Lodging in Banff/Jasper Help Needed...

We are planning a trip to Banff and Jasper in the end of May 2009 (tentatively May 23rd to May 31st). Can you please point me to some lodging information for the area? We will be two adults and a 3 year old kid.

I would like to stay as close to the heart of activities as possible and too far away....

Also, for this time of the year, are there and specific pointers for the area to know about? I will carry my kid on a backpack carrier so we can do some hiking but nothing too strenuous...

Thanks so much for your help!!

You can anticipate the possibility of running into snow on any of the higher trails (last year it snowed lightly in town during the 1st week of June) so be sure to pack warm/layers: especially for the little one. Good footwear is virtually a necessity; light, waterproof or water resistant hiking boots are perfect even for walking about town. It's a fairly "down season" time of year so you can pretty much take your pick of lodgings: I've found the Rundlestone to be pleasant (and not too far a walk from the downtown core) but I'm thinking that the next time I go up there I just might try a B&B.

My son said he looked on Priceline and found a 3 star for $53 a night.

Private home accommodations or B&Bs in Jasper are much cheaper than hotels. Some of them are hotel-style rooms, some are one or two bedroom apartments with a full kitchen. Most offer accommodation only; breakast is offered at a few homes - usually self-served, continental, although there are one or two homes offering a sit-down continental breakfast:
