Lake Louise to Jasper
 

My husband and I are going to spend 3 or 4 nights at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise in mid-October. We are also considering driving to Jasper, but we are wondering what the weather is like that time of year since we would be doing some driving and stopping along the way. Also, please recommend places to stay in Jasper. We would probably spend two nights there. Any advice would be helpful. This will be our first trip to Canada and we want to make the most of it.

We travel to Canada every summer and our favorite place to stay is the Overlander in Jasper. We do not know what it would be like in the winter, but it is absolutely wonderful establishment.

The drive is spectacular in the mountains any time of the year, your weather should not be too bad, the Alberta weather systems are not horrific. <BR> <BR>I would do the Jasper Park Lodge, www.fairmont.com - not the smaller hotels...if you are staying at the Post Hotel you will want something nice in Jasper. <BR> <BR>To be honest, I do not think I would do Jasper for your trip, I would more likely recommend going east or further south...The Prince of Wales and the Waterton Park are really neat, Jasper is like a smaller, less upscale version of Banff - could be same old, same old for you..( I am a native Albertan, so just being honest, nothing against my home province...) <BR> <BR>The Drumheller badlands are really neat...don't be disappointed that there is no foliage...you are too far north to see a lot of deciduous tress, so there is very little of that "fall splendour" they are 99% evergreens. <BR> <BR>Weather - 50/50 chance of brisk fall or winter - LL will have snow and be cold. Pack warm and remember your sun glasses. <BR> <BR>Be sure to go to the Chateau Lake Louise, and sit in their lobby lounge overlooking the Lake - you get a premium view - and the Walliser Stube (right in the hotel) does the nicest fondue and wine mix. <BR> <BR>Enjoy the Post! Thanks to all of you for your advice and recommendations. Natalie, I especially appreciate your knowledge of the Alberta weather in October. I know there's no way to know what it will be like for sure, but it helps to have an idea.
