Is the Lake Louise Inn anything to 'write home about'?

It seems large..but does it have any character.?

will be going..two seniors and companion in mid september..driving trip ..sightseeing..but would like good views and possiblity of getting 'special needs' meals.

any suggestions?

In my opinion, not much.

I have quite often recommended Lake Louise Inn to visitors who were looking for a property that was friendly, comfortable and relatively affordable by Lake Louise's expensive standards. I think LLI's loft suites are convenient for a family.

The older buildings which make up the LL Inn used to be the Lake Louise youth hostel. Not a place with character at all, but it probably is the most affordable place in Lake Louise. What time of year will you be going? What is your budget? If you really want a spectacular room, the Chateau Lake Louise offers one of the best in the world, but you will pay for it.

opps! major typo! I meant to say that the Chateau LL offers one of the most spectacular VEIWS anywhere - not rooms!

we will only be staying two nights..we are coming close to the wire as places are filling up..it would be for sept 9 and 10...we are two senior citizens and daughter..Everyplace is SOOO expensive..If we could find a clean B and B we may go for that..
we need a 'base camp' for a few days jaunts to Jasper and Banff..chose Lake Louise as it is somewhat central..
any other suggestions?
Even the family room at LLI is a bit expensive,but we may go with that...We will not be spending all that much time in a room..but we would like it clean and comfortable..with a little mini fridge for our provisions.
any suggestions would be appreciated..have seen deer lodge Inn specs and Mountaineer Lodge..but anyone have any information about them.
ps...we are a little too aged to want to climb flights of stairs with our stuff to get to our room..!

For affordable lodging, you will probably have more luck finding a room in Banff. The drive from Banff to Lake Louise is easy and the scenery is beautiful.

We loved Deer Lodge! It has so much character, and great food as well. Their chefs are excellent, and they may well be able to provide "special needs" meals. The drawbacks? We chose one of the lesser "lodge" rooms, and it was quite small (but well appointed and too cute!). There were also stairs that we had to climb. But you can choose from a variety of rooms and could avoid those issues. Its sister resorts, in case you are interested, are Buffalo Mountain Lodge and Emerald Lake Lodge. Our picture book from our trip to Banff 2 years ago are filled with pictures of this place and its flowers; it is beautiful -- "rustic" elegant. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Banff adds an extra hour to an 8 hour driving day for us...(plus time change..=9hour)

my question was specific to Lake Louise.thus the subject heading.

Deer Lodge is Lake Louise, not Banff.

We have Deer Lodge booked two nights Sep 9-11 and will post report upon our return. It looks nice and has had good reviews. If you must have TV choose another place as Deer Lodge has no TV sets in the rooms (according to their web site at least).

We stayed in Mountaineer Lodge in July in a standard double room, which was on the ground floor, so we were able to park right by our front door. I wouldn't say our room had a huge amount of character but it was clean, comfortable and convenient for the 3 nights we stayed. There is no restaurant but as it was near the cross roads in the centre of Lake Louise, it was a short stroll to Laggan's for breakfast and diagonally across from the Mountain Restaurant.

As promised a report on Deer Lodge at Lake Louise. In a nutshell a nice place to stay within 5 minute walk of the lake shore. Our room was in the original lodge building so was small but did have nice sized bathroom and pleasant furniture. There was a small closet and one chest of drawers so storage space is a bit small. The lodge is very pretty outside and inside and the large lounge with nice big fireplace is a great place for a drink or coffee in the mornings. The standard room like ours does not have coffee/tea maker in the room (all others do). However, the dining room will deliver a pot of coffee to the lounge if you request.

One nice thing is the location near the lake. We could walk to the lake of to the Fairmont is 5 minutes which we did often. We also had drinks and dinner one night at the Fairmont. Do not let the large crowds at the Fairmont and the lake during the day scare you away. Go to the Fairmont after 6 and it is quiet and so nice.

Considering that you are seniors note that the original lodge rooms do not have elevator service so if climbing stairs is a problem consider the new wing which I think does have lifts.

Anyway have fun
