Kid Ideas for NS
I have a trip planned to Nova Scotia for August (Bay of Fundy to Cape Breton to Halifax). My 9 yo daughter wants to know what there is for her to do there. I've told her about whale watching, the Louisbourg fort (which she is looking forward to) and the tide thing. She wants to know if there are other things that a 9 yo girl would really like on the trip.

My daughter was 9 when I took her to Nova Scotia and she absolutely loved Children's Day at Highland Village. For only $30 CDN, your child can spend the day there (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) dressing like a Scottish lass, participating in a one-room schoolhouse, learning Gaelic, eating Scottish foods, and interacting with a number of other children her age. Go to http://museum.gov.ns.ca/hv/ and click on "Children's Programming" at left. The museum puts on the program each Wednesday in July and August and we scheduled our vacation specificially around that. My mother and I toured the museum separately during the day and enjoyed it greatly. Hope that helps.

The Miner's Museum in Cape Breton would be of interested to her. You are able to actually go down into a mine and see what it is like www.minersmuseum.com
My kids absolutely loved Baddeck however we did spend considerable time on the water. There is a little ferry that takes you from the Marina to a small beach which is very popular with kids. The Alexander Graham Bell museum is very interesting and worth a visit. Outside of Halifax is the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park. Worth a stroll through. While in Stewiacke, there is the woolly mammoth she can have her picture taken with and across the street look for the goats that are on the top of the Farmer Clem's Building. I believe you can now feed them. In Halifax there is so much to do. The Busker Festival is in early August and a huge amount of activity on the waterfront. Discovery Centre located on Barrington St. is a great way to pass a couple of hours as is the Museum of Natural History. Citadel Hill, shopping on and around Spring Garden Road, having an order of fries from Bud the Spud, The Freak Lunchbox Candy Store, The Black Market are enjoyed by my kids! Take the Harbour Hopper tour of the city - from land to water. |
very nice beach at caribou/munroes provincial park. take a sail boat ride out of baddeck on the lake.

These sound great! She's particularly interested in the Highland Village. Other ideas?
