Keep car safe while you fly

To keep your car from being stolen from an airport parking lot while you are flying away on an exotic vacation, or even a boring business trip, ...

Remove one front wheel, and one rear wheel, and pbut the wheels into the trunk.

Car thieves will look at the car, and decide it's too much trouble to steal, and instead will make off with the car beside yours.

I have no idea why this idea came to me while sound asleep this morning, but I remembered it when I woke up. Hope it is useful to you all.

So, are you putting the car on jackstands? What if the car thief is pissed and decide to kick the stands off?

laverendrye Feb 27th, 2004 07:51 AM

Better idea: take a cab.

With the greatest respect, BAK, some ideas that seem absolutely marvellous in the middle of the night don't hold up too well in the light of day. :)

Brian, it is too much trouble for me to remove 2 wheels from my car & put them in my trunk! Then I have to put them back on when I return from my exotic vacation. I think you were dreaming about your bike & somehow it morphed into a car @ Pearson. Time for you to go on a vacation! Take a limo to the airport!

I buy car insurance so I don't have to resort to such tactics - have to grant you one for creativity, though.

BAK, thank you for the laugh!
We hire a car, it is not that much more than a cab and parking is one less worry. Or get a friend to drive you..I can picture me now-standing in the cold, waiting for the Yankee to get that damn wheel off, those bolts and thingees too tight and we don't have the right tools!
LOL, try hot cocoa before bed, you might dream of something like how to win a Lottery ((F))

BAK.
We have told you before that poutine and CC before bed are a bad idea.

Best to take the dogsled to the airport. Hungry huskies are hard to steal.

Re>Hungry huskies are hard to steal<

And, now that you mention it, the dogs would not be hungry after meeting the car thieves, so the world would be short several crooks, and the dogs would have full tummies.

All in all, making the world a better place in which to live.

I think it would be much safer if you took the wheels with you on the trip - perhaps you could put them in the overhead bin. If other people complain about you taking up all the overhead space, threaten to drop the wheels on their heads. that should work.

laverendrye Mar 5th, 2004 04:13 AM

They might be a bit easier to squeeze in the overhead bin if you let the air out first.
