Jasper & Banff accommodation?
G'day!
Does anyone have any "recent" accommodation recommendations for Jasper & Banff (we're an Aussie couple in our 50s)? Budget would be up to CAD$400 p/n, but prefer to keep around the $250-$300. Thanks if you can assist. Cheers from "down under" :) |
please give us more information. do you like b&b's (pretty much only available in jasper); full service hotels (i.e. 4*+); units with kitchens; pool important; basic clean place with no amenities; cabin. what time of year are you travelling.

There are some pretty recent reviews on www.tripadvisor.com. You have a more reasonable budget than I do--We only want to spend $200/nt.
Our last visit in 2004 we never paid more than $200CAD, which was wonderful--the US had a more favorable exchange rate. We stayed at Emerald Lake Lodge, Baker Creek Chalets (LL) and Beckers(Jas.)on our last visit. All very nice. We are just in the process of making reservations at Paradise Lodge and Bungalows(LL)Patricia Lake(Jas.)and Fox All Suites(Banff)--we got a hotel room here through skoosh--cheaper than the hotel website. We tried to book at Alpine Village--we saw it last visit and it looked really nice--they require a 3 nt stay though. We are hikers so we prefer to stay in Lake Louise rather than Banff since it is closer to the trails. If you like a ski town atmosphere, then you would prefer Banff--there is no town in Lake Louise, just lodging and restaurants. We prefer Banff during the winter. We have fallen in love with this area. This will be our third visit. Australia is one of our dream trips. |
We stayed at a b&b in Banff www.banfftreetops.com in Sept 2007 which was good value and central. We also stayed at www.num-ti-jah.com on the way to Jasper which has a very unique wilderness setting.
I would strongly recommend both of them. |
In Jasper, we've stayed at Alpine Village - great. We've also stayed at Patricia Lake Bungalows in their newer units - very comfortable. Alpine Village has become our favorite because of its location.
We can also give a thumbs up to Paradise Lodge & Bungalows in Lake Louise. For the Banff area, we like to stay in Canmore, about 15 minutes away, as we can rent a condo with all of the comforts of home, and still be close enough to the park activities. For your budget, you might also see if there are any specials at the Fairmont properties in Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper. The Canadian Rockies has become one of our favorite areas - we are making our 4th trip in September. And this June, we are heading your way, to Cairns and Sydney - to visit friends! Enjoy your trip to Jasper and Banff - the area is wonderful. |
Private home accommodations (rooms or suites in someone's home) or B&B (the same, including breakfast) listings for Jasper can be found at www.stayinjasper.com - high season prices average about $80 - $90 for a double room with private bath, and no additional taxes in most cases.
For Banff/Canmore, try www.bbcanmore.com or www.bbcanada.com which has listings for all over Canada. |
Thanks for your responses. After I posted the message I realised that I had missed a bit of info, so here goes:
Month of travel: mid-end June Duration: 1 night Banff; 2 nights Jasper (We'll be staying 1 night at Lake Louise Fairmont - hubby's desire - although we know it's close to Banff). Accomm Preferences: * Not too keen on B&B's. * Prefer hotel / motel (3-4*+)[with own toilet/bathroom amenities] * Would like temperature-control (ie. heating)[We live in the tropics so we'll be feeling the temp difference] * Prefer Parking (secure or at least under-cover) * No requirement for Kitchen or pool. Enjoyed the Rockies so much (in 1989), that a return visit was a must. Last time it was with a coach tour, but doing a self-drive this time. Thanks again :) |
Hello jgbg, we visited the Rockies from Australia last year and stayed in Becker's Chalets which are located just out of Jasper next to the Athabasca River. If you don't need to be in walking distance to town, we found this a great spot. There is a Restaurant onsite which we didn't eat at so can't commenton that. Parking was outside the chalet but not undercover.
Elk come to sleep on the grass outside of your balcony at night. Lovely gas log fires were very effective also! Have a great trip. |
Becker chalets in JAsper is great <with gourmet restaurant.Paul

G'day! Thought I would update those who took the time to respond (which we appreciated).
We tried Patricia Lake Bungalows but unfortunately were booked out on our dates, so we are now trying Becker's Chalets. Fingers crossed. Cheers & Thanks again :) |
