Hello,

can anyone recommend a good lodge type place to stay in Jasper that is child friendly as we have an 8 and 7 year old. We will be there in August 2006. We have read that the pocahontas cabins are not situated in a good place and are too far from Jasper town.

If you are looking for cabins, there are many that are close to Jasper townsite : Pine Bungalows, Becker's Chalets, Alpine Village, Jasper House Bungalows, Patricia Lake Bungalows.

Another idea for a family is "home accommodation."

Do a Google search for 105 Patricia Street. It has received an excellent review on this forum.

Another "home accommodation" property that has received glowing reviews on the travel discussion forums is Crayston's.

While Crayston's is reputed to be excellent, it's a large studio apartment, so everyone sleeps in the same room. The larger of the two suites at 105 Patricia Street is a one-bedroomed apartment with an extra alcove off the living room that has two single beds in it.

Check out Alpine Village at alpine villagejasper.com. Have stayed there three times (most recently a month ago) and highly recommend it. They have a range of accommodations, and one of their cabins may suit your needs. It's close to the main commercial area of Jasper Townsite.

If you select one of the commercial accommodations, I think you should investigate the minimum stay policy.
Some of the place have a 2 or even a 3 night minimum.

Patricia Lake Bungalows had a 3 night policy in the summer of 2004.

All of the places Judy named are good.
Of the group, my preference is either Pat Lake or Jasper House.

Others swear by Beckers.

My mother and I stayed at Alpine Village and enjoyed it thoroughly. As we walked around the grounds, we noticed a small playground of sorts, bikes, etc. (There's also an outside whirlpool but we had no time.) I think kids would love these accommodations.

Note that you'll have a full kitchen here but are not super close to any restaurant if that's important to you. You'll have to go down the highway (about 10 min.) to reach the restaurants. The office does have coffee tho.

I prefere the seasonal summer accommodations (cabins, chalets) in Jasper, as they are located outside the village. I enjoy the peacefull atmosphere in places like Becker's chalets or Pine Bungalows.

i stayed at the athabasca, which is not a good idea and not a lodge, but cheap (jasper style of cheap which is not very) . however if you have a car, then stay out of town, but if not, definetely stay within three or five blocks of town. there is no public transport. the pocahontas cabins are way out. i remember seeing them on a tour.
how long are you staying? have you been before ? there is plenty to see. and eat. ( bear paw bakery comes to mind. as well as the fudge place)
