Itinerary Advice needed for Nova Scotia
 

Hi - we (4 adults in our 50's) plan to fly to Halifax in August of 2005. We love to hike, kayak, scenic drive and do touristy stuff. I think we will concentrate on Cape Breton but there seems to be so much to do in Nova Scotia as a whole that I am overwhelmed. We want a trip that is loaded with lots of nature but we don't want to kill ourselves getting from place to place.

Knowing that we particularly want to hike and kayak - any suggestions are appreciated. I particularly would like to know if it's better on Cape Breton to base ourselves in one or two spots for the week or to go from hotel to hotel each night. That can get wearing and I only want to do that if it will give us the best experience.

If you are a apddler, Kejimkujik National Park is a dream! I have only camped there, and I am not sure there are any other ladging options, so that may not be your cup of tea.

Cape Breton sounds ideal for you. There is a lot of ground to cover in CB alone, so you can easily base yourself out of a couple different locations on CB to maximize your trip.

How long will you be in Nova Scotia? That will give a better idea for suggesting itineraries.

for tent camping, is there a particular campground you'd recommend in Kejimkujik National Park. i won't be paddling at all, just short hikes and a beach.

Hi, Sue! If your main focus is going to be Cape Breton, why not fly into Sydney? Rent your car @ the Sydney airport. CB lends itself nicely to "day trips" so it wld be a good idea to stay in 1 or 2 places for the week instead of changing hotels every night. Baddeck is centrally located & w/in a relatively short drive from the Sydney airport. Try to arrive so that you are driving b/f the sun sets. I just noticed: You will not be going to NS until 2005 so we still have lots of time here! Did you order your Doer's & Dreamer's guide fm NS Tourism?

Hi - yes I have the Doers and Dreamers book and Frommer's Canada and will probably get more. I am a guide book junkie!

The above posting for Kejimkujik Provincial Park is a very good one. I very pretty little park with canoeing, paddling, biking, and hiking activities. It's located due east of Halifax. I think some of the campsights are acessible by vehicle, with others which are only accessible by canoe into the interior. Check it out on their website -very informative.
We stayed in Baddeck last summer on Cape Breton and found it a very pretty area and convenient. There's a campground there but I didn't use it.

Hi again - we are not interested in camping. Looking for nice places to stay that have LOCATION! Would like to stay at a couple that give us good locations for getting to great hiking and all the big tourist things we should do. Thanks for all the answers. sue
