Is this doable?
 
We will be in NS for one day on a cruise, and we plan to rent a car. How long would a trip to Pictou take?

From where? Halifax-Pictou: about 2 hours, maybe a little less. Sydney-Pictou: about 3.5 hours. Why Pictou?

We visited there several years ago and liked the town. We'll be in NS one day on a cruise and can't decide where to go. We'll be renting a car and traveling on our own.

If it was me, and the ship was in Halifax, I'd head more or less south, down to Chester, Peggy's Cove, etc.

Just back from Nova Scotia and made a side trip to Pictou..don't bother! We were very disappointed..certainly nicer places to explore.
