Ideas for roadtripping in the Maritimes
 

Hello everyone, the wife and I just moved to Moncton New Brunswick after roadtripping across all of Canada to arrive here from BC, so we are looking to use this summer to explore this region now.

This summer during our vacation time, we plan to go around all NB, NS and PEI, so we would like to know of ideas of the best places to visit, where to camp and what are the best routes to follow.
Also, this is the first time we are roadtripping with two kiddos (my nephew 15, and my niece 10), so it is also important to find wonderful places that are cool for kids too since we usually only look for things that interest us (we don't have children) and so we are not that used to the stuff kiddos enjoy haha, but I am excited, I love those kids to death and they are traveling from Mexico to stay with us. So the best touristic places are also up for grabs, but I really want to show them TRUE gems so they can have an amazing summer.

See stuff to do on the island for kids below. Are the kids into Anne of Green Gables, a lot to visit about Anne in Cavendish area. See the link above for food, lighthouses, etc.

You could spend an entire day at Basin Head Provincial Park

Check out Basin Head Provincial Park https://www.tourismpei.com/provincial-park/basin-head near Souris. This is a very popular summer beach in Eastern Kings County, PE. A small bridge spans "the run" where brave swimmers jump off and currents carry you out toward the sand bars of the beach area. Great fun all day. Cafe on site. Very busy in the high season, but loads of fun. The beach makes a strange swishing sound when you walk on it.

I would try to find some cool places to stay, like a cabin on a lake, so you aren't driving around in the car every day. I know as a kid that would have been my worst nightmare. Especially if it's for the entire month. Definitely include the kids in planning, they are old enough to read guidebooks or sit with you on the internet to pick out places they are actually interested in seeing, or activities they would want to do. Sounds like you know them well enough to know dietary preferences, allergies, things like that?

Sorry for my late response, I was swamped with a lot of things to do specially taxes since I asked for an extension hehehe.

Thank you very much for your tips! Not to drive around everyday, yeah, definitely. That used to be a very anxy thing to me to endure as a kid, I can't believe I didn't remember that until I read it... hehe.... how life changes you when you now are the adult driving.

@tlc195 Thank you very much for your detailed info. My wife and me were lowkey favoring PEI among all provinces don't know why.... maybe because it's an island I thought it would seem more "fun" or "adventurous" to the kids. OMG, my self included I'm a big fan of Go Karts so with that feature alone I'm sold :)..... and also we both are "Princess Cordelia" fans hmmm.. maybe that's why PEI was so up in our list hehe. I think for now, PEI would be the main focus, I'll go one by on the suggestions you send me and start writing down the master plan.

Wow, this is fun to contemplate...


Moncton's location is semi-strategic as single spots in the Maritimes go... and even Moncton itself seems more fun than it once was.

I have responded over the years to zillions of threads here about visiting the Maritimes... so maybe just click on my name and peruse.


I was just now writing on another thread about spending a night (or two?) at the lighthouse at Cape D'or... and with kiddos visiting from Mexico, that seems like something likely to be new to them. (although with kids, you'll want to better prepare for how to pass the time during a day there, if spending two nights) Also, be sure to delve into the extremes (of the extremes) that are the tides in the Bay of Fundy. Walking so far out in the sand at low tide just might not be a common opportunity where they are from in Mexico.

Your (literal) home base will already put you convenient to many Maritimes hotspots and thus you can check-off some of the boxes on weeknights.

But the planning of the specifics for your visitors should be quite fun.
