Thank you, LJ.

Hi WillTravel - I was lured to Newfoundland by the picture of the hiker looking down at Western Brook Pond. That was back in 2002. I have been back to Newfoundland every year since except in 2007. Did it exceed my expectations? More than I ever thought possible. There are a lot of posts here telling you good things about Newfoundland. All true. My only advice is don't try to cram a lot in in just a few days. Newfoundland is a destination, not a place you just pass through. Give yourself the time to enjoy all it has to offer.

You guys are very convincing!

How did I miss most of this thread? Oh yea, I was away. I was waiting for you to chime in LJ.

If I really had to pick, I think I would say the west coast too for the first trip.
Gros Morne is spectacular and I think there is a better selection of cabins there. Rockey Harbour maybe has the most to choose from.
The tourist office at Gros Morne is very helpful.

Do order the guide put out by the tourist board.

Also, Irecommend, I'm so glad to hear that Newfoundland is your favourite place. I agree... now I'd like to go back.

cmcfong: Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on places to stay. Too bad you don't have more time because we only scratched the surface of "The Rock" on our 15 day trip. With less time, of course you won't be able to stay at all the areas we did, but I'll include the sites so when you decide where you'll travel, you can check these out.

Our requirements were 4 rooms at each place, with 2 of the rooms having 2 beds. We also wanted an area (room and/or deck,) to gather as a group. All were reasonably priced and really had no complaints about any of the places. All were very clean and well kept--a major consideration for me.

St. John's B&B in town, parking on street with pass
At Wit’s Inn (bbcanada.com

Twillingate 2 attached modern cottages, 2 kitchens, washer/dryer
Echoes of the Ocean (echoesoftheocean.net)

Rocky Harbour (Gros Morne National Park) 2 modern separate cottages, kitchens, washer/dryer easy walk to town, fish market, restaurants
Mountain Range Cottages (mountainrangecottages.com)

Port Union B&B, central location for interesting hikes/will prepare excellent group dinner
Captain Blackmore’s (captainblackmores.com)

Witless Bay access to East Coast Trail (IMO not as spectacular as trails in other areas)
Elaine’s by the Sea (elainesbythesea.com)

Will your group be staying or hiking at Lake O'Hara in Yoho?

Here's a more direct URL for At Wit's Inn. http://www.atwitsinn.ca/

cmcfong: also meant to mention, I don't have a photo site on line yet, but if you send me an email, I'll send you some photos direct.
