How to get to Whistler
Hello, I am still trying to work out the best itinerary for our BC trip and getting more and more confused.
This is the itinerary so far: Vancouver 3 nights - Victoria 2 nights - 1 spare night - 2 nights Knight Inlet lodge - 2 nights Campbell River - spare night - 2 nights Whistler - 2 nights Vancouver. Question: Is there a way of driving from Campbell River (Painter's Lodge) to Whistler without going back to Vancouver or having to take 3 ferries along the sunshine coast? I am worried about the ferries in August as I've read about queues and hours waiting around to board. Would it be an idea to drop the car and fly? Thanks, any advice welcome. |

No. Also Do Not take the Sunshine Coast route unles you want to spend most of the day sitting in hot parking lots waiting for Ferries. You can easily fly to Campbell River from either Victoria or Vancouver if that suits-you can also make reservations for ferries. |
Thanks Sam - you've given me an idea: we could drive to Victoria fly to Campbell River then drive back down to Nanaimo take the ferry and drive up to whistler. This way we could fit Tofino in too. Have to see if flights and car rentals work out though.....

The new itinerary could be: Vancouver 4 nights - Victoria 2 nights - knight Inlet 2 nights - Painter's lodge (Campbell River) 2 nights - Tofino 2 nights - Whistler 2 nights - vancouver 1 night fly home.

The Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay ferry will definately cut out hours of backtracking through Victoria and Vancouver. Remember you can even reserve a spot on-line.
