Houseboat on the River Trent in Ontario
Has anyone experience of travelling down the River Trent by houseboat? We plan to travel in July. We are from Edinburgh and have been told this would be a perfect way to see beautiful scenery, little historic towns and Native American history/art. Do you agree? Where would it be best to start from? Best sights/experiences to look out for? Can you recommend a company to hire from? Expected cost? Thanks

I have not actually done the house boat trip, but I do have a cottage on the Trent system. If you go, you will pass my front door. The boats are rented from the town of Peterborough and a week is the usual time. It is a very leisurely method of travelling and there are many lift locks to negotiate. The fishing is good and the scenery very pleasant. The web sites given to you earlier should provide all the info you need. Incidentally, I too am from Edinburgh. Peterborough is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Toronto. There is no train service, but a bus connection is possible.

Out of curiosity, I just Googled Houseboats in the Kawarthas (that is the area around Peterborough) and I found everything that you would need to know, including prices. The week appears to be around 650 GBP depending on the exchange rate
