Hotels in Ottawa

I am looking for a small elegant hotel in Ottawa. Any suggestions?

I've never been personally, but I have friends who like the Carmichael Inn and Spa. It looks very nice on the website

I wondered if anyone else had suggestions. I would not mind an Inn or large B&B as long as I can have some privacy.

Not sure about B&B's.... Hotels are far more common but this link may help you find a B&B in Ottawa to your own liking:

I have family that stayed at the Best Western Victoria Park Suites. It is a surprisingly upscale property with reasonable prices

Ottawa doesn't have many small elegant hotels, but you might try arc the.hotel on Slater Street: http://www.arcthehotel.com/

Another "boutique hotel" opening this month is Indigo. It will be the first of this chain in Canada. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/in/1/en/hotel/yowid

The most elegant hotel in Ottawa is the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, but it is certainly not small.

The Chateau Laurier is not small -- but it is elegant -- and central -- and beautiful -- and worth the money for the view from the upper floors. Also, there are sometimes specials that make it affordable. The pool was designed at around the same time as the Titanic -- in fact, some poolside furniture that was ordered never made it over..there are palm fronds and polished brash fittings and it reeks of Victorian elegance... http://www.fairmont.com/laurier/

Everywhere you'd want to go in Ottawa is within walking distance...so you might save some dough on cabs.

cheers....

Plus, you can always use OC Transpo - it's pretty much everywhere in central Ottawa. $3 for a bus ticket with 1 1/2 hour limit on it or $6.50 pre-purchased ($7.25 purchased on the bus itself).

It has a trip planner too!
