Hotel To Avoid In Montreal

Dear Canadian and American Tourists,

Please keep the following piece of advice in mind if and when you are travelling to Montreal. Montreal is a wonderful city and I suggest that you attempt to visit it once in your life time. To ensure a beautiful stay I emplore you, even beg you, to avoid the following hotel when booking accomodations. Please avoid: HOTEL ST.DENIS 1254 RUE ST.DENIS, MONTREAL, QUE (514) 849-4529.
This hotel loses room reservations, despite booking weeks in advance and obtaining confirmation numbers. This hotel does not provide any compensation for poor administrative duties and clerical errors. Managerial and senior administration staff is unprofessional, rude and very offensive. American friends have complained of false advertisement in the states. Fellow travellers have complained about missing, lost and stolen personal property from their "private" rooms.
Please DO NOT do business with this shabby so called establishment.
Thank you and happy travels.
RL, Ottawa

We have been recounting our tales at Alacoque B&B Revolution in this thread:

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...le1&fid=29

Alacoque is located at 2091-93 St-Urbain

Several items were stolen from our room. Security camera shows the owner left the premises for the afternoon without locking front door (the thief walks right in the front door when the establishment was empty).

The owner refuses to assume responsibility.

I haven't had any experiences with this hotel, but it's address (1254) would keep me away. This part of St. Denis, (near St. Catherine), is a little seedy. There are lots and lots of nicer places to be on St. Denis going up towards the plateau.

zootsi, I agree with you; but the problem is that the unsuspecting traveller who goes on the web and finds these small hotels has no idea of the area and it's safety. The websites often are charming and have nice pictures so it's hard to know if you're in a seedy area. If they ask on this board, they can be steered away.

Between the theft at the Albacoque and the hotel st denis, I sure don't want our visitors to get the wrong idea about our wonderful city !!!!!!!!!!

zootsi, mitchdesj, I wouldn't give much credence to a review that is 8 years old. The current 2007 reviews on TripAdvisor are generally fairly positive, recognizing hotel St-Denis is a budget establishment.
