Hotel near gay ghetto

I am visiting Toronto in two weeks. I would like the name of a moderately priced hotel. I would like to be a short train or cab ride from the gay ghetto. Any suggestions on where I should stay?

Carl,

You might want to try www.city.toronto.on.ca, then click "Visitors" then "Tourism Toronto" then "Places to Stay." It lists many hotels in Toronto.

You probably should also visit www.guidemag.com, click on "Gay Travel" then "Toronto and Ottawa" for more information about bars, shops and places to stay in the gay ghetto.

The Bond Place Hotel is within easy walking distance of the gay area. Don't know if they have a website. The Victoria has received good reviews as a downtown, moderately priced Toronto hotel.

Hope this helps.

The Town Inn Suites Hotel is on Church Street just a little north of Wellesley (heart of the gay area). Also there are some really nice bed and breakfasts in the Jarvis/Isabella area (Homewood Inn). If you go to www.toronto.com and search for downtown bed and breakfasts there's a list and there's a link to a Town Inn web page.

Carl- the gay village is centred around Church and Wellesley Streets. Unlike most other large cities, this is near the heart of downtown, and so any downtown hotel or other accommodation within the area defined, say, by Bay, Bloor, Parliament, and Queen will be walkable to "boystown." Church Street is fun and the locals are friendly (I became one- immigrated here from the US two years ago), but it is (to me) too similar to other US and Canuck gay ghettoes- you can imagine that you are in Wrigleyville or Midtown Atlanta or Dupont Circle, and generally the area is much less multicultural and has worse, and more expensive, food than do other city neighbourhoods (none of which is gay unfriendly). So get your fill of the gay scene but make sure you venture beyond, to Little Italy (which is itself a kind of alternative gay village), Greektown, Little India, one of the Chinatowns, the Beach, the Islands, and so forth.

We've stayed at the Bond Place Hotel. Highly recommend. Very nice and excellent value for the dollar.
