Hotel in Victoria
 

My fiance and I are looking for a nice hotel to stay at for one night in February 2005. Is there anything modern, appealing to the younger crowd??

$250 CAN per night or less. Thank you.

Also, please recommend Vancouver hotels as well....

Last February, my husband and I spent several days at the Grand Pacific which is right on the Inner Harbour. We had selected it both for its central location and fitness facilities. It was very satisfactory and, at that time of year, had relatively reasonable rates. Sorry, I can't help with Vancouver, haven't been there for years, tho' the Wedgewood was nice the last time and, I believe, still has a good reputation. Have a great trip, Mariposa

In Victoria-The Grand Pacific is indeed a fine hotel.
Also check out the Laurel Point Inn, and the Empress(all should have websites if you "google" them).
In Vancouver, check out the Westin Bayshore. Used to be good.

In Vancouver I recommend a couple of places: the Opus Hotel (new, modern, hip - things you've requested) or the Wedgewood - simply the nicest boutique hotel in the city. The Wedgewood is closer to Robson Street shopping. Opus is in Yaletown - lots of restaurants, bars, shops, loft-living...
Sorry, but "younger crowd" and Victoria don't usually seem to go together...
The Grand Pacific would be a good bet. The Empress is the city's lovely old showcase hotel.

I have stayed at the Grand Pacific and The Empress and the Empress is a typical old CP Hotel - small old bathrooms...I liked the Grand Pacific a lot! The Empress is lovely for dining but I wouldn't stay there again. It was overpriced for what you got.

There are many nice hotels in Victoria but have you considered a mid - high end B&B? For the price range quoted you can certainly get a room at most B&B's in February (if its Valentines weekend book now)

Good B&B's offer so much more than you might expect so if you haven't tried a B&B this Victoria is a good place to experiance one!

The Victoria Regent has wonderful suites with romantic views of the harbor, balconies, and it is in a great location.

Better late than never?

We booked a room with a balcony and harbor view at the Grand Pacific. Unfortunately the balcony was too small for any furniture, and the only view was from the balcony. There was no window in the room.
We would have asked for a different room, but from the outside, it looked like none of the balcony rooms had windows (although the suites might).
We thought it was a dark, small room for the price.
However, we loved our suite at the Pacific Palisades in Vancouver. It was roomy and had a great bay and city view (we had requested an upper floor).

mscarls - I am confused... was there a sliding glass door (window) to get out onto the balcony? Or was there a solid door through which you could not see?
