what is a recommendation for a hotel to stay in one day before cruise?

DW and I have stayed in the Downtown HI Hostel before taking the Canadian east to Jasper. They do have private rooms as well as the dorms. http://www.hihostels.ca/westerncanad...owntown.hostel
This is one of my favorite Canadian hostels.
I have stayed at HI hostels in Jasper, Winnipeg and Toronto as well.

Assuming your budget is good pre cruise

The Pan Pacific GREAT views over the harbor

right at the port paid $150 last for a great view room there

The Listel was great

Depending on your budget, The Fairmont Waterfront is also in a good location across from the Pan Pacific and cruise port.

If you like B&B's as well, try "Thistle Down". That place was incredible. Apparently they won a tripadvisor award. To us it was no real surprise; fantastic rooms and a breakfast of Kings.
