Hot tub protocol?!
 

Silly, I know - but we're off to the Rockies/Vancouver in a few weeks and I keep thinking about all these hotel hot tubs.

Being a Brit, I'm more used to having hotel trouser-presses at my disposal than hot tubs (not that I've used one of those, either!) so I thought I would ask how they 'worked' - like does one wear a swimsuit, or what? Do you talk to other people?!

Any hot tub experiences you can describe (within reason!) would be great :-)

Definitely wear a swim suit. Talk to other people if you are in the mood.

hi claire, wear a swimsuit. i find american men favor the trunks over speedo style. the chlorine is intense in these so i do not wear my newest suit. do talk to people. and remember to drink less when tubing - all that heat makes you sillier and sleepier more quickly

Depending on your age and physical condition, you may also want to check with your doctor before using them. I am prohibited from either them or hot soaking baths because of the medication I take and the fact that hot water immersion tends to narrow the arteries and veins.

a perfect chance to meet new and excited people !! don't wear anything !! Stick to drinking champagne only, the carbon dioxide helps to keep the blood flowing to the brain. Just joking, wear a swim suit !

Please wear a swimsuit! I also recommend folding a towel and sitting on it; hotel tubs often seem to have rough surfaces that can rip fabrics. As Virginia says, don't wear your newest suit.

Is the hot tub outside?
The one where I stayed was, and the air was very cool after the sun ducked behind the mountain.

Yes, bob - I think the ones I'm talking about are outdoor ones.

On that subject, do people use outdoor hot tubs all year round - that may be (another) silly question, I know - I suppose I'm thinking that's the whole point, being able to sit in cold, fresh air without being cold??

Hot tubs are great outdoors. If it is snowing all the better. For the really adventurous I recommend a jump out of the tub roll in the snow shocker. This of course if you are physically able to do so, but it's something to try at least once.

Talking as with any other similar thing depends on the situation. Some people want to relax quietly, some want to chat. As always respect the other people there.

PS. The snow roll thing is for the louder type crowd usually après ski.

( Just an odd note.... I am from Walnut Creek California where Jacuzzi Tubs were started.)
