Honeymoon in the Rockies

My fiance and I will honeymoon in the Rockies this October. Flights have not been booked; only hotel reservations, so please suggest a different itinerary if you think changes should be made.

We will stay for 10 nights and fly in and out of Calgary. I considered flying out of Edmonton; however, we are using one pass miles and only allowed to book roundtrip. If you have Continental One Pass Miles and know differently or can confirm this please let me know.

Day:
1 - Calgary (Fly in, relax, dinner)
2 - Calgary
3 - drive to Banff
4 - Banff
5 - Banff
6 - drive to Jasper (entire day dedicated to Icefields Pkwy)
7 - Jasper
8 - Edmonton
9 - Edmonton
10 - drive back to Calgary to fly home

How does this sound? Any changes? Any additions?

We would like to visit Lake Louise while staying in Banff.

Hello CanadaRockies,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

I was about to say your itinerary was perfect. Indeed, you could keep it just the way it is if you wish.

However, it then occurred to me that it might be nice to travel in a counter clockwise direction instead of clockwise. The reason is that you would visit the prairies first and the mountains second. It's a bit of a let down the other way round. I like to spend the last night of vacation in a special place, and I think Banff would be a nice note on which to end your trip.

En route from Calgary to Edmonton, consider doing a detour to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Drumheller. The dinosaur skeletons are fascinating.

the itinerary is fine. do you have a reason to come to edmonton? i live here so i'm not putting it down but unless you have a reason (the mall? family?) i'd spend those days in the mountains. the icefield parkway is great so using it again to drive back towards banff will still be enjoyable. don't forget about yoho park in bc. some nice sights there too.

Sounds like my own honeymoon - We flew to Calgary and did a large circle going north to Banff, Jasper, through the Rockies and then south to Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Then returned throught the southern route along the south part of B.C. back to Calgary. Banff was nice, (& expensive) but I think a day is enough to see Lake Lousie and Moraine Lake as well as a tram trip in one of the surrounding mountains. Really, you can't go wrong in that area of the country at all.
