Honeymoon help
 

Hello there. We are going on our honeymoon in late Sept for 8 days. We arrive in Halifax, plan to spend 2 days there, and then 2 days in the Lunenburg area.
We will have 4 days left and I dont have a clue what to do with them. Can anyone recommend anything. We have not been to Nova Scotia before, and have to be back in Halifax for the return flight.
I would very much appreciate suggestions for the last 4 days.

Hmmm...there are many possibilities, but it depends on what you are looking for. Quiet and romantic? A wee bit adventurous? Something active? Lay around and relax?

I would advise visiting Cape Breton, although if you were going straight to Lunenburg after Halifax, the Lunenburg to Cape Breton drive would be quite long.

You could drive around the other end of the Province from Lunenburg. White Point Beach lodge in Liverpool is a lovely spot to spend a nite. Then into either Yarmouth or head towards Digby. You might even be able to take a whale watching tour out of Digby Neck/Tiverton area. A night in Wolfville at the Blomidon or Gingerbread House and then back to Halifax (less than an hour to the airport from here.) Save Cape Breton for another time.

Thanks, Tanya. I looked into the "lighthouse" route as described on a NS tourism website and it looked good. We really would like coastline with waves crashing etc (we are prarie folk and the ocean is a fascinating novelty for us- very romantic too). Are the towns along the way (such as Liverpool,Yarmouth etc.) worth seeing, and does that stretch of the coast fit the bill I desecribed? It looks like four days just touring the lighthouse route might be just what we are looking for.I'll check into the places you suggest.

I think you will enjoy taking the route around Yarmouth. The towns are very quaint and small but the scenery is rugged and breaktaking. By the time you hit the "other" side of the Province - the Annapolis Valley - everything changes. Annapolis Royal is a must and don't drive by Bear River. I suggest you stay to the back roads and skip the main highway as much as possible. When we travel I encourage my husband to hug to every side road we can - you never know what you will find!

If you do like to hike, Keji Nat'l Park is quite awesome. You can rent kayak/canoes on site. Digby Pines is a beautiful old resort you might want to spend a night - quite elegant. Just down the road from it is a very plain hotel but right on the water and great food! In Annapolis Royal I have heard great things about the Bread and Roses Inn but haven't stayed there myself.

In Wolfville do make sure you visit the Grand Pre winery, the Tangled Gardens, and drive out to the lookoff in Canning. If you want an excellent meal in Wolfville try the Tempest. For a cheaper place with good food and their own brew - Paddy's Brew Pub in Kentville.

You will have no problem spending four days exploring this end of the Province - you may just not have enough time!

I suggest going to Mahone Bay for a night. We stayed there this past Sept and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Manse. Its a very quaint, quiet and relaxing village with some shops and restaurants. We ate at Mimi's Ocean Grill and it was really good.

Another place we enjoyed was Lantern Hill and Hollow in Ingonish. You have your own cottage with fireplace, full kitchen and jacuzzi and are right on the beach where you can enjoy a bonfire each evening.

We also loved Bay Wind Suites in Cheticamp, which would be a great place to stay after seeing Cape Breton. It was quiet and relaxing also.

I have tons of information and pictures, but I'm not sure what you're looking for, so I don't want to go on and on.

Since We cant see it all in 8 days, we finally decided on 2 nights in each of Halifax, Lunenburg (Boscawen inn), Digby (Digby pines resort) and Wolfville (Blomiden Inn), all based on research on tips from your helpful replies (what a great forum this is). We are very much looking forward to our trip.
