Hi Yellowrose - I don't overnight in Burlington. I just use it as a lunch stop to stretch my legs.
I love Burlington but Montreal's even better! I try to spend as many nights in Montreal as possible. Have a wonderful trip and fill us in when you return! |
That's good to know. We will plan on an afternoon flight if possible and spend one more night in Montreal. Do you know how long of a drive it would be from Burlington to Quebec City as I think we will do Quebec City first and then Montreal just to be closer to the airport on the day out.
God our tickets. Decided to fly into Montreal as it is a non-stop flight and the times in Burlington were not very good. I hate the 6am flights out! This way we will fly direct to Montreal and arrive just after lunch and will have the whole afternoon and evening to start the vacation. We will leave on May 30 and return on June 6. Now I can start planning in ernest and reserving B&B's!
Actually *got our tickets. God wasn't involved. Sorry for the typo.

http://www.adorequebec.com/ Any recommendations on this location in Quebec City? Thanks -
The location (anywhere within the old walls) is great for exploring Quebec City.
Thanks Daniel!
Agreed! If you can, stay within the walls of the city!
I will make sure to find something within the walls. Have been sending out some inquiries for different B&B's and apartments.

http://www.aubergelejardindantoine.com/index_en.php I am still looking at places to stay. This one is highly recommended on TripAdvisor. It is in the Latin Quarter. Since I do not yet have in my head the locations in Montreal - could somebody let me know if this is as good as staying in the Plateau area? Thanks again for the help.

Rue Sherbrooke is considered the southern boundary of the Plateau and the Auberge Jardin d'Antoine is just beyond that, south of Sherbrooke on St. Denis. So the location would be fine for walking in the Plateau. It is also closer to the metro than the other B & B you were looking at. The street is a busy one so there is likely to be street noise.
Auberge Jardin d'Antoine is on St. Denis in a VERY lively area, technically not the Plateau but a stone's throw away.
I looked on Trip Advisor and it got a lot of good reviews. My husband thought it looked good too - not I'm not so sure. Thought I had made my decision. I agonize over finding just the perfect place to stay! When you say a lively area - do you mean a lot going on that would be good for tourists - or loud and annoying and unsafe? Thanks -
I think there would be both a lot going on and a lot of noise from the street. I don't think it would be unsafe. If you look at the pictures with this Wikepedia article on the Latin Quarter you would get an idea of what St. Denis is like:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartier_Latin,_Montreal It is hard to find lodging for a trip, isn't it? I have been going over options for a family vacation in Colorado. Lots of nice Victorian B & Bs, but I don't like their cancellation policies.... |
St Denis, especially in the area of this hotel is one of the most 'happening' areas of the city - lots of restaurants, clubs, cafes, shops, etc, etc. Not dangerous by any means, but there will definitely by people on the street until the wee hours, and like anywhere else there will be some noisy ones. The hotel itself is quite nice, my daughter stayed there several years ago and enjoyed it. You might ask for a room not facing the street. If you want something close by that's a little quieter, there are several small hotels up on Sherbrooke, like the Chateau Argoat.

http://www.bbselect.com/canada/quebe.../qc-mo-42.html This B&B was just recommended to me. I don't know anything about this location. Any ideas for me? Thanks. We have decided to stay at the Maison Historic James Thompson in Quebec City.
Chateau Argot looks very nice as well. I do appreciate all of the input and help.
vttraveler - Where do you live? I have visited Colorado on numerous occasions and it is wonderful. Good luck with your search. Have you checked out VRBO? I believe there are quite a few in CO.
The b&b looks nice - the area it's in is 'ok' - not where I'd choose. A downtown location just off St. Catherine. Lots of big stores and a few strip clubs close by. There are tons of nice b&b's in the plateau area.
